WHAT IS THE ATARIBUS INTERACE?
---- -- --- -------- --------
Glad you asked. The ATARIBUS interface is an ATARI 400, 600, 800 or
1200 computer; a CP/M system with a 19,200 baud serial port; a little bit
of hardware and a fair amount of software. What this stuff lets you do is
to fool the ATARI computer into thinking that the CP/M system is it's very
own disk drives and printer. This can be a lot cheaper than buying all
new peripherals for the ATARI.
This interface also happens to be free. Well not totally free. You
still have to setup the serial port connection between the ATARI and the
CP/M system, but all the software IS free. Source listings are provided.
Most of the system is written in the "C" language, in the BDS "C" version
of the "C" language to be exact. Thank you Leor Zolman for an easy to use
and FAST compiling system. The current ATARIBUS files require BDS "C" v1.5
or better to compile properly. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who
fixes bugs or adds improvements to the ATARIBUS system.
If you haven't got the BDS "C" compiler then all is not lost. Compiled
versions of all files are provided and can be easily patched for any hardware
setup using only DDT. Detailed instructions on this can be found in the
file "PATCHING.DOC".
As far as hardware is concerned, you will need a serial port capable of
operation at 19,200 baud and with a TTL level interface to the ATARI. See the
file "HARDWARE.DOC" for some more information on what exactly is required.
See the associated DOC files for information on how to use the various
utilities provided on this disk.
enjoy,
