~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Topics sets 3TOPICS & 4TOPICS added. Override default path to these
using "2T=" on the command line. If you override one all three must
be specified. The INSTALL program was updated to allow automatic
installation into these directories.
2) You can now have eight active note sets.
3) Version changed to 6.13.
4) If you have an HP Palmtop contact one of the following experts for
advise on how to install the Online Bible on your machine.
Tom Hoover or Robert K. Meyer
3014 Teakwood Dr. 160 N. 6th
Garland TX Laramie, WY
75044 82070
"tom-hoover@genie.geis.com" (307) 742-8137
The Online Bible does not support these machines because they are
not IBM compatible. If you get it to work, great. If not, do not
call us. The problem appears to be a hardware problem with the flash
RAM. We have reports of the Palmtop working correctly as long as it
is plugged into an external power source. However, when running off
of batteries it locks up because of the excess current surge that
occurs when randomly accessing the flash RAM.
5) Unlock disks are now stored in a separate UNLOCK directory for each
version.
Jan 24 1995
~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Bug in TSR when handling Russian, Chinese and Arabic texts corrected.
2) Russian print drivers added to Russian package.
3) All Strong's numbers are now reconciled in Authorised Version with the
the 1894 Scrivener's Greek text.
4) Minor changes to Bible.EXE.
5) No version number changed because above changes are quite minor.
Sept. 14, 1994
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Greek and Hebrew character display surpressed when VI or BB option
specified.
2) Quick Verse Print uses full book names not abbreviations.
3) Minor display changes for visually impaired.
4) Topics entries work correctly for VI option. Before scriptures were
not being looked up correctly.
5) NOFONTS option added as keyword to surpress loading of FONTS.EXE
to display Greek and Hebrew in verse notes. Some laptops have non-
standard VGA adapters and some EGA adapters do not handle the
downloading correctly. The result is a garbaged screen display.
6) Windows and CD-ROM installation streamlined. See "Using Windows"
on the Mini-Menu for the changes.
7) Windows clipboard support added. See "Using Windows" on the Mini-Menu.
8) Radix of 5 allowed on verse notes to handle the "Treasury of David"
by C. H. Surgeon.
9) Network and CD-ROM install copy Windows' PIF and ICON files and
MESSAGES.TXT into user directory. This allows user pick his language
preference.
10) Version changed to 6.12.
11) Install disk now can update a CD-ROM hard disk installation. The
unlocking of CD versions is intergrated into the install program.
12) The option "Expand Verses" in print menu's ignores embedded
bolded cross-references.
13) Expanded maximum size of verse to handle updated Classical Pak.
14) Parms to program can now be in upper case.
15) Manual updated and sent to printers for the seventh printing.
16) TSR now works for AV_NIV from CD.
17) Bug in Bible text creation routines fixed.
18) Attempting to edit files on a CD-ROM drive or using the CD-ROM as the
default drive generates a proper error message instead of crashing
the program.
Apr. 25, 1994
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Problem with final forms not displaying in Hebrew text corrected.
2) Cross-references work either from TSK or CXREF directory. If
you have the TSK installed, you can delete the CXREF
directory files to save disk space. The INSTALL procedure no
longer deletes the CXREF files for you.
WARNING we are running short of space and this support for
the old CXREF file will be dropped sometime in the next year
or so. If you are really short on disk space, consider
buying our Online Bible CD-ROM.
3) The mouse support is no longer the default. To activate it
use the keyword "mouse". If you are running under Windows, do
not activate it or your Windows "Cut & Paste" facility will
not work properly. To activate it do the following.
mm mouse
You can set the OLB environment variable or update your
BIBLE.INI file. See your blue version 6.1 manual for details.
4) FONTS.EXE updated to improve the shape of Hebrew characters,
ZAYIN, AYIN, and TSADHE. If you get a messy screen display,
delete this file from the Bible directory. This means that
the Greek and Hebrew characters cannot be displayed in your
verse notes. Some portable computers and early VGA adapters
do not handle the video download command properly.
5) Distributor READ.ME2 on install disk now displays when user
selects To-Order on mini-menu. It always displayed when you
ran the GO menu on the install disk. This file can be a
maximum size that will fill a screen and still leave room for
the PAUSE statement. To-Order document updated.
Mar. 25, 1994
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Bug fixed in display routines for Russian text.
Feb. 28, 1994
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Support for Windows install added to install program.
2) Old module detection added. Message 520 added to MESSAGES.TXT
and INSTALL.TXT. This informs users that the material they have,
may be quite old and they should get a better copy.
3) Extra checking added to install procedure to prevent "Undefined
File" errors from occurring during CD-ROM installation.
4) Bug in runtime error recovery routines fixed a display bug when
selecting Strong's numbers using cursor keys.
5) Version changed to 6.11.
6) Documentation updated to correct minor errors.
7) Several minor bugs in UED corrected.
Jan 25, 1994
~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) F10 on main screen toggles window display between full screen,
split horizontal, and vertical windows.
2) Note radix can be changed to support huge verse note
commentaries. "Gill's Expositor" will be about 50 megs of data
and have a radix of 12 not the normal 50. Specify a third
parameter of the NOTES file for a different radix. e.g.
notes * gill 12
3) New commands in verse notes.
\~ toggle Greek
The Greek text MUST be entered according to the following
transliteration format, in which a single English letter
represents a single Greek letter:
Alpha = a Nu = n
Beta = b Xi = x
Gamma = g Omicron = o
Delta = d Pi = p
Epsilon = e Rho = r
Zeta = z Sigma = s
Eta = h Tau = t
Theta = y Upsilon = u
Iota = i Phi = f
Kappa = k Chi = c
Lambda = l Psi = q
Mu = m Omega = w
Sigma final = v
e.g. \~logov\~
\^ toggle Hebrew
The Hebrew transliteration scheme does NOT attempt to reflect
phonetic equivalents. Rather, a simple mnemonic expedient
which allows a single English letter to represent a single
Hebrew consonant has been implemented. The transliteration
code utilized for notes' display is as follows:
Aleph = a Lamedh = l
Beth = b Mem = m,M
Gimel = g Nun = n,N
Daleth = d Samekh = o
He = h Ayin = e
Waw = w Peh = p,P
Zayin = z Tsadhe = u,U
Cheth = x Qoph = q
Teth = j Resh = r
Yod = y Sin = v
Kaph = k,K Shin = s
Tau = t
Note that the five letters which possess distinct final forms
(Kaph, Mem, Nun, Peh, and Tsadhe) are mapped to upper case.
e.g. \^Kab\^
The FONTS.EXE must be in the main Bible directory for the
characters to display properly on a VGA screen.
4) Parameters may now be entered by creating a text file in the
Bible directory called "bible.ini". After the parms are
processed on the command line, the data from this file is
processed. If the first non-blank character of a line is a
";" or a "[" then the line is ignored. An complete example is
given in the manual in Appendex B under the title "BIBLE.INI
Parameter File". A "?" for the drive letter is replaced by
the drive letter for the drive of the version you are using.
e.g.
bible d=g:\olb\bible\scholar
If your INI file contained the following:
2n=?:\olb\bible\gill
In this case the "?" would be replaced by the character "g"
and the statement would be treated as though you wrote:
2n=g:\olb\bible\gill
This allows you the freedom to design INI files that are
not require a specific drive letter.
5) Copyrighted versions are supported on the CD-ROM. User must
register to obtain missing pieces for these versions to work.
This way the CD-ROM is not burdened with royalty charges and
the user only pays for the copyrighted versions he wants to
use.
6) Notes append to end of note file not to beginning.
7) The line in the notes file you are pointing to is displayed
in the lower right of the screen.
8) File sharing now implemented so you can run the program and the
TSR at the same time without a file sharing violation. This
problem occurs under OS/2, Windows and the DOS Shell.
9) The default abbreviations for the 66 Bible books are loaded
from a table rather than VERSION.DAT. Some modules had in
VERSION.DAT an abbreviation of "He" for Hebrews instead of
"Heb". This will correct all those situations without having
to reissue those modules.
10) Chinese support added.
Oct 1, 1993
~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Spurgeon's "Morning and Evening" daily readings have replaced
the CXREF files on the high density install disk. We have
added to each morning reading the passages to read so you can
read your entire Bible through each year.
Sept. 21, 1993
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Colour problems in Greek and Hebrew corrected.
2) MM2.OLD now displays TSR prompt when ".DOC" files are not
present in a version.
Sept. 8, 1993
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) To activate the Russian keyboard for the Russian version
press ALT F10. Pressing ALT F10 again restores the normal
keyboard. See the Russian version documentation for complete
details.
2) MM2.OLD altered to active the font driver before a
documentation file is displayed. This allows the Russian font
to be correctly displayed in the Russian documentation
3) Installation altered not to update CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT on OS/2 systems.
4) Greek and Hebrew cross-reference book names are displayed in
English not Greek or Hebrew.
5) Mini-Menu changed to allow user to load TSR from a menu option.
July 1, 1993 Minor Changes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) TSR has been altered to use a different method of determining
the hot key. This should expand the number of word processors
that will work with it. For XY Write or Signature by XY Quest
use a control key sequence for the hot key. Alt key sequences
interfere with the menu processing on XY Write.
If the hot key number displays a leading zero, the old method
is still being used. Add this leading zero to the number you
use to start the TSR. e.g. _scholar 02092 not _scholar 2092.
If no leading zero is displayed, do not alter your TSR. It
should work correctly.
2) The INS key in the scan window toggles the automatic
collapsing of the verse list display for cross references.
3) A new option on topics and verse note print to expand the
text of a verse instead of just showing the cross references.
(New messages 416, 456 added to message file.)
4) Print menu excepts F5, F6, and Control T to select output
options.
5) Mouse made less sensitive and works everywhere. Changes from
the printed manual are.
Left Button - Page Down
Right Button - Page Up
Double Click Left Button - Escape
Double Click Right Button - Enter
6) To map accented characters to their closest unaccented
equivalent specify "/x" after the file name when printing.
e.g. prn/x
passage.doc/x
HP series printers (Laserjet and Bubble Jet series) do not
map the accented characters the same way the IBM PC does.
Either use the "/x" option to strip the accents or print the
text to a file and print it using your word processor. Most
dot matrix printers require dip switch settings to make them
emulate the IBM Pro Printer II to correctly print accented
characters.
7) To be CD-ROM compliant we changed the name of the TSR so it
starts with '_' instead of a '$'. Under Microsoft Windows
this may not be accepted. Either rename the file in the Bible
directory or start the TSR in your AUTOEXEC.BAT before you
start Windows.
May 1, 1993 Version 6.1 - NETWORK & CD-ROM Compliant Version
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The major change between 6.0 and 6.1 was making all the file
names and directories CD-ROM compliant. This allows us to
continue to develop even larger databases for you on CD-ROM
quite inexpensively. See the To-Order documentation on the
Mini-Menu for details on pricing.
1) All file names changed to become CD-ROM acceptable. All
filenames with a "$" or a "-" have these characters changed
to "_". Directory suffixes were dropped. The install
procedure will fix everything inside the Bible directory.
However, if you used the NOTES batch file to create notes
directories outside of the Bible program, rerun NOTES to
correct the directory names. You will not lose your notes.
2) The TSR batch file is now starts with a "_" instead of a "$"
Correct your calling procedure to match the new name for the
TSR batch files. e.g.
$SCHOLAR becomes _SCHOLAR
$AV-NIV becomes _AV_NIV
$MODERN becomes _MODERN
You may have to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to allow for
these changes. These changes were necessary for CD-ROM
version.
3) Path names have been added to all batch files. Hence to run
the Mini-Menu, only MM needs be in the search path. If you do
not want to add the Bible directory to your search path, copy
MM.BAT to a directory in your search path.
4) For CD-ROM two new keywords are available.
dp = specifies default path for all files to be read or
written from the Online Bible e.g. c:\wp51
user = specifies the directory where
a) the "SCREEN.OPT" file is located
b) NOTES, 2GREEK, 2HEBREW, 2TOPICS directories are located
c) UED editor
d) batch files for running the program
e.g.
mm dp=c:\wp51 user=c:\bible
or
mm dp=c:\wp51 u=c:\bible
If the USER keyword is not set, your changes to the options will
be lost when the Online Bible terminates. If you do a CD-ROM
install the USER keyword is automatically added to all batch
files for you and you do not have to make any changes.
5) A bug in the date-stamp routine for Online Bible modules that
were created before Mar. 12, 1993 may cause trouble if you
try to download or install the files using OS/2. Try
installing under DOS if you get a CRC error when loading the
files under the OS/2 DOS box. All modules created after this
date will not have this problem. All modules shipped from
Winterbourne after Mar. 12, 1993 will not have this problem.
Other suppliers may still have this problem with their
masters.
6) Control-C clears the display windows and resets the quick
print path to PRN. (not in 4th printing of manual)
7) Virus protection programs that alter the time stamps of any
of our files will cause a false VIRUS alarm message from the
Online Bible during the install procedure or when running
the program. Do not use programs that alter time stamps.
8) The topics disk was updated to correct spelling and other
minor errors.
9) Disk masters for making blank masters deleted from disk
version and are only found on the CD-ROM version. These four
files are MASTER.360, MASTER.720, MASTER.120, MASTER.144
Changes Feb 18, 1993 Version 6.0
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Verse note display does not automatically wrap to the
beginning of note when you reach the end of the note. Press
Home to go to the beginning of the note.
2) Note display does not return to start of note when end of
note displayed. Press HOME to return to beginning of note.
Changes Jan. 6, 1993
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) When you press F4 from the scan or reference window, you can
select the Strong's numbers using the cursor keys to select the
number or just type in the number directly.
2) The horizontal windows may now be expanded to full screen size
and overlap. This allows the maximum display windows for viewing
triple versions.

Changes for 6.00 Sept. 1, 1992
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first printing of the manual on the disk and the printed manual
are current except for the following items that were added after the
manual went to press. These errors were corrected in the second
printing of the manual.
1) Control T and F6 can be pressed from the main menu to change
search requests text.
2) Following functions can be selected from main menu.
F2 - Word Search
F3 - Display Passage
F4 - Display Strong's Definition
F5 - Topic Display
F8 - Display Verse Note for a Passage
F9 - Phrase Search
F10 - Quit Program
3) In the Notes Window, F10 note sets the default set of notes,
topics or definitions rather than loading cross-references.
(p. 85)
4) All extensions to Strong's numbers are shown in (..) brackets to
(p. 40)
5) Copyqm no longer distributed with the Bible program. The latest
version 3.00, was too large to fit on the install disk. This
program is the best way to mass copy disks on a PC. Please
write or call Sydex for ordering information. Cost is about $20.
Sydex, P.O. Box 5700, Eugene, OR, 97405 or call (503) 683-6033
See To-Order on the Mini-Menu for details on ordering a manual
and getting the latest install disk. The manual on disk is not
suitable for printing.
Errors in the First Printing of the Manual
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Page 39, after "Heb 1:8" the three words "Press F8 and" were omitted
from the next sentence. It should read as follows.
"Press F8 and a blank notes window will open."
2) Search request "LORD | Lord | GOD | God" on page 29 is too
large for the program. The example will be altered in the
next printing.
