WINCNVRT.EXE - Convert Online Bible ASCII Output to Symbol Font
Maurice A. Robinson - March 20, 1995
Released as FREEWARE
═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
The file WINCNVRT.EXE is a utility designed to convert the direct
ASCII output of any Greek biblical text from its original form to
that utilized by the Windows Symbol Font.
Syntax: WINCNVRT filename.ext
The operation is very simple: type WINCNVRT followed by the output
filename plus the extension you selected when using the Online Bible
"print to disk" function. For example, if you had printed the
Byzantine text of 1 John to disk as "1JN.BYZ", then you only need
type WINCNVRT 1JN.BYZ to accomplish the conversion. The program will
provide a running summary of its progress in regard to the file being
processed, and will announce "FINISHED" when all processing is
completed.
Note that the original output file will have been replaced by the
converted file; should you desire to restore the original file
format, you need only run the program a second time following the
same command syntax.
The processing consists only of the swapping of the characters for
Theta and Psi ("y" and "q" respectively), and making the final "-s"
form display correctly (swapping "v" and "V"). The process runs very
quickly and should be no hindrance to the users who desire to bring
the Online Bible Greek text output files into their Windows-based
editors or word processors.
As noted above, this program is provided entirely as FREEWARE, in
accordance with the principle "Freely you have received, freely
give" -- so enjoy!
WARNING WARNING WARNING
Do NOT run this file on any text files other than ASCII output of
Online Bible Greek text files, or garbled text will result.
The program has a built-in safeguard to prevent it from corrupting
executable files (with the extensions .EXE, .COM, or .BAT), where the
damage which might be caused would often be irreversable. The
program also will not allow files with the extensions .OVL, or .DAT,
to be processed (the latter being used extensively for Online Bible
data files).
However, there is NO safeguard to files with extensions other than
those named above. In most cases, garbled files can be restored
simply by running WINCNVRT a second time with the same parameters,
but there is no guarantee that various data and overlay types of
files might not be permanently damaged if the program is carelessly
run on such files. Use only as directed, and you will have no
problem whatever.
