  2.      DCF/2 Compression/Decompression Test Utility (CTU)

  6.      The DCF/2 CTU, or Compression/Decompression Test
  7.      Utility is designed to measure DCF/2 compression and
  8.      decompression engines.
  9.  
  10.      The tests the CTU performs are ALWAYS done on entire
  11.      physical disk units.  This means that you cannot test
  12.      network disks or other logical DASD devices which have
  13.      no geometry.
  14.  
  15.      When the CTU tests a physical disk unit (PDU), it will
  16.      process 'chunks' of information from the PDU independent
  17.      of any file information.  EVEN IF YOU TEST A DISK WHICH
  18.      IS ONLY PARTIALLY IN USE, THE ENTIRE DISK IS TESTED, so be
  19.      aware that testing a big disk can take a LONG time if you
  20.      test every chunk (using a sampling of 1:1).

  22.      Also be aware that the compression results will be
  23.      calculated based on the compression of all of the disk's
  24.      data including the deleted, formatted and unused, and
  25.      system file areas.  TO GAIN THE MOST ACCURATE INSIGHT AS
  26.      TO COMPRESSION CHARACTERISTICS FOR A GIVEN FILE TYPE OR
  27.      MIX OF FILES, YOU SHOULD USE A DISK FILLED WITH THE FILES
  28.      YOU WISH TO TEST.

  34.      To speed up testing and still accurately measure compression
  35.      performance, you can statistically sample you physical disk.

  41.      This program samples physical disks by opening up the
  42.      device in direct access mode.  If your physical disk is in
  43.      use (for example by OS/2), you may get compression/decompression
  44.      verification errors.  These are not errors in the CDE and
  45.      occur because of locked conditions on the read operation.
