- REPERTORY TEST
- Pat: "How about a date?"
- Robin: "No, thanks, I just ate."
- Knowing the multiple meanings of
- many words is central to much of our
- humor and slang. Research has shown
- that flexibility in dealing with
- alternative meanings of words is
- especially important in the creative
- process and in personality develop-
- ment. This test was designed to
- measure the ability to shift from
- one meaning of a given word to an-
- other, often subtler meaning.

- INSTRUCTIONS: You will be presented
- with 24 simple words, each followed
- by 5 more words. You are to choose
- the word which is closest in meaning
- to the first word. Example: RIGHT -
- head, wrong, loss, privilege, moun-
- tain. One meaning of the word RIGHT
- is privilege. This correct answer is
- an unusual meaning of the word. You
- will find in this test that the cor-
- rect answer will often not be the
- first meaning that comes to mind.
- You can skip a question by pressing
- RETURN. If you have time you will be
- allowed to go through the test again
- to fill in and change answers. You
- have three and a half minutes.
