OutFox is distributed as shareware on an "I trust you" basis and is not in
any form to be considered public domain or free. Considerable effort went
into creating the program and I am retaining full protection under the
copyright laws. However, I also want you to be able to share my games with
your friends. So, please feel free to hand on as many copies as you would
like, as long as you include all of the original files.
If you are going to use OutFox for your personal enjoyment, whether you got it
from a distributor or a friend, please mail a check or money order to me at
the above address. The registration fee for OutFox is $10. I depend on your
registering to continue devoting full time to making fun to use programs that
don't require you to adapt to the program. I'd also like your comments and
suggestions. In exchange, I'll add your name to the list of those eligible for
updates, contests, and 24-hour technical support. If you wish, you may use
the registration form by typing PRINT OUTFOX.REG at the DOS prompt.
Like all of my games, OutFox is designed for full color with high resolution
graphics and should run on most PC's and work alikes. OutFox is compatible
with Hercules, MDA, CGA, EGA, and VGA display adapters. Only half of the
screen is used for MDA displays. The built in mouse support should work for
any mouse. There is a provision for disabling the game sounds if you prefer
the game to play quietly. If you have any problems, please let me know.
OutFox is a computerized version of the old "Fox and Hounds" game. The big
difference is the Fox, which is guided by the computer. It's not the smartest
fox, but it takes some careful planning to 'out fox' the fox and keep it at
bay so it doesn't reach safety at the base of the screen. The object is to
completely surround the fox so it cannot move. To assist you, the country-
side is furnished with randomly placed fences, hedges, trees, and rocks.
Look out for the rocks! When the fox is not sure which way to move, rocks
will disappear and reappear at random. Sometimes they will plop down on top
of one of your hounds. It might even be the hound you were about to move.
You can use the <SPACE> bar or <ENTER> when prompted for a key. The left
mouse button serves as both and answers questions with yes. The right button
serves as No. The cursor keys allow you to move up, down, left, and right.
The corner keys on the keypad will let you make diagonal moves. The fox can
also move diagonally. You really have to surround it to make a capture.
You may copy the OutFox files into any directory on hard disk or another
floppy. The only requirement is that all of the files associated with the
program, except for its BAT file, must be in the same directory. You can
execute the program directly, with a batch file, or from ActMenu. If you put
OutFox on your hard disk, the BAT file may need changes for your system.
Good luck, and let me know if you enjoy OutFox. Your support for my programs
is sincerely appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
P.S. Please retain the original BAT file if you are
going to pass OutFox along.
