Bolshaya Koniushennaya Street, 6a
1803 -05. Architect G. Paulson
In 1733 a site for constructing a praying house
for the Swedes and Finns living in Petersburg
was allotted in Bolshaya Koniushennaya Street to
the order of Tsarina Anna Ioannovna. In 1803-5 a
new stone Finnish church was built on the site
called the St.Maria Church. In the late 19th
century the church underwent reconstruction
involving changing the interior spacing and
partial remodelling the facades (architects
K.Anderson, later - L.Benois). In the 1920s
interior reconstruction was undertaken, that
divided the whole volume into three stories.
