Version 2.0 15 Sep 1988
Version 2.0a 20 Jul 1990 Recompiled for Windows 3.0
---------------------------
V2.0 can handle multiple application of same name and iconic applcations.
General information:
DESKSAVE is a Windows 3.0 utility which saves window applications
positions and sizes as default so that next time you start Windows
you'll get the same desktop as you had before.
DESKSAVE runs as an icon, and all its commands are on the System menu.
To save desktop:
- run DESKSAVE
- select option "Save Desk" from System menu
To arrange desktop:
- select option "Arrange Desk" from System menu
OR
- run DESKSAVE with command line option "-l"
When saving desktop DESKSAVE enumerates all top level window applications
(not popup style) and saves the names and positions of those
applications to WIN.INI. If application has an open window, DESKSAVE
adds its name to the list of applications to be run when starting Windows.
If application is iconic, its name is added to the load-list.
The format of lists in WIN.INI is:
[DeskSave]
FILE.EXE=0 0 50 60;60 100 100 140 (filename=position rectangle of
application window #1;#2; ...
iFILE.EXE=0 0 50 60;60 100 100 140 (same as above but application
is iconic (minimized))
When arranging desktop DESKSAVE enumerates top level applications. If the same
name is found from [DeskSave] list in WIN.INI, a window positioning message
is send to application.
To running system you need two files:
DESKSAVE.EXE and DESKLOAD.EXE
DESKLOAD.EXE is used to be loaded as a last application in "Load"-list
in WIN.INI. It arranges the desktop and exits.
You may use and distribute this program and sources freely.
I hope you find DESKSAVE useful.
