Amiga small-MIDI-Interface
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
By H. Luyten 1992. Suitable for all Amigas, except the Amiga 1000

Files: - Midi.IFF; an IFF of the MIDI-Interface, including component
information,pin layout, etc.
- Midi.DOC; this file...
This MIDI-interface is small enough to fitt in the RS232-plug !!
Since I have only one keyboard, MIDI-THRUE was useless.
I placed R4 and R5 in the MIDI-OUT-plug and R1 in the MIDI-IN-plug,
the rest of the components easilly fit in the RS232-plug.
I now have a MIDI-Interface like shown below:
---------

Amiga |
|-- ___
|S|============================/ /=======(___(= MIDI-IN
|E| ___
|R|==============/ /==========(___(= MIDI-OUT
|--
The optocoupler (IC1) is glued (with superglue) in the RS232-plug to
avoid moving around.
Part list:
R1, R4 ... 220 Ohm (red, red, brown)
R2 ....... 4K7 Ohm (yellow, purple, red)
R3 ....... 10K Ohm (brown, black, orange)
R5 ....... 1K2 Ohm (brown, red, red)
T1 ....... BC109B transistor
D1, D2 ... 1N4148 diode
IC1 ...... CNY17 Optocoupler
These parts are very common, so you won't get trouble buying these.
You'll also need:
1x Female D-25 (RS232) plug
2x Male Din-5 (MIDI) plug
and some cable (2 wires and a shielding). Don't exceed the lenght of 15
meters for your cable !! (I think that'll be long enough...)
The resistors, build in the MIDI-plugs, should be protected for shortcuts
(simply use some tape...).
I tried this with an Amiga 1200, Amiga 2000B and Amiga 3000 and it worked
just great...
The software I used for the testing: Mr.T 3.57 and OctaMed.
Additional hardware I used for the testing:
Technics SX-K700 keyboard and a Roland D-50 keyboard.
I tried to be as clear as possible (in both the Midi.IFF and this doc),
if you can't figure out what to do,.. try some technical help from a friend.
Note: The design is based on an older design of 'unknown', I adapted it
to more common parts and on size.
