THE WEATHER REVIEWER (c) 1996, by Steve Hollar
version 3.0
Welcome to The Weather Reviewer. Have you ever wondered if this
hot day or that rainy day was as bad as the same time last year?
Keep track of the highs and lows in your area. Also, include rain-
fall, snowfall, humidity, barometric pressure, general weather
conditions and any extra information. Compare dates and years.
Generate statistical reports.
Version 3 is a vast improvement over version 2. The main data is
held in a single file so immediate comparisons of any dates or
range of dates is now possible. The addition of snowfall, humidity,
barometric pressure and special information plus allowing inches or
centimeters as measurements makes it far more usefull.
I developed a simple version of this program over 5 years ago and
have been keeping track of the weather every day since then. It
can be quite fascinating and can win you a lot of arguments and\or
bets.

INSTALLATION
------------
Real simple. Just follow these step by step instructions.
1. Create a directory for The Weather Reviewer on your hard
drive. i.e. C:\WEATHER
2. Place all the files from the zipped file into this
directory.
3. Run the SETUP program. It is self explanatory.
If you make a mistake, you can run this again.
4. (optional) Run the CONVERT program and enter the file
name "9495". This is for demonstration only. It is
explained later.
4. Type "weather" at the DOS prompt.
UPGRADING FROM VERSION 2 TO VERSION 3 **IMPORTANT**
---------------------------------------------------
YOU MUST RUN THE SET UP PROGRAM AGAIN!
1. For safety, back up all files before doing
anything else.
2. Copy all the new files directly over the old.
3. Run the CONVERT program.
a. Enter the name of the file you wish to convert. This
would be the same as the season, i.e. 9596
b. If you have more than one file, enter them one at a
time.
RUNNING THE PROGRAM
-------------------
ENTER DATA
1. Enter date as mmddyyyy. ex: 03121996 for March 12, 1996
2. Enter high and low (fahrenheit) to nearest 10th degree.
3. Enter rain in inches or cm to nearest 100th.
4. Enter snow in inches or cm to nearest 10th.
5. Enter humidity as a percentage. ex: 41 for 41%
6. Barometric pressure to nearest 100th. ex: 29.18
7. You have 16 spaces to enter the abbreviated weather
conditions. Enter them like this: MG FG-CLR-SUN
This would mean, morning fog then clear and sunny.
The listed abbreviations are suggestions only. You
can use anything meaningful to you.
8. Enter extra information. You can enter one line of any
thing you want (75 spaces). i.e. Earthquake magnitude 5.8
struck today. OR Caught a record fish at the lake.
VIEW MONTH
Enter as mmyyyy. ex: May 1996 would be 051996
The month will be displayed in chronological order. The first
page shows the dates, highs, lows, rain, snow, humidity,
barometric pressure and conditions.
The second page shows statistical information.
COMPARE DATES
Enter up to 50 individual dates as mmddyyyy
The output data is the same as (VIEW MONTH).
COMPARE SEASONS
Enter up to 50 years as yyyy. This produces information based
on standard seasons. So, if you enter 1992 and 1993, the data
will be gathered from July 1, 1992 to June 30, 1993 and from
July 1, 1993 to June 30, 1994.
STATISTICS
Enter any range of dates as mmddyyyy
The output is the same as the second page in (VIEW MONTHS).
ABBREVIATIONS
This is a list of suggested abbreviations for conditions. You
may, of course, use your own.
MAKE CORRECTIONS
All information can be changed from here.
EXTRA INFORMATION
Find information by date or condition. If you choose
condition, enter any combination of letters. i.e. fg or FG
will find all occurances of those letters which represent
fog (if you used them while entering data). Entering earth
or EARTH would find any occurances of "Earthquake struck
today" or "Caught a huge fish with an earthworm". The search
is not case sensitive.
Included in this package is the weather information for the
1994-1995 season in my area. You must use the CONVERT program
to change the file "9495" to the new format. You can use this
to experiment and see the full capabilities of the program. The
information is contained in two files, WEATHER.DAT and EXTRA.DAT
After using, delete the files before adding any of your own data.
REGISTRATION
------------
The cost of registration is a mere $10. Support of shareware
authors is what keeps new products on the market. Mail in the
registration today. I'll send your code immediately.
You can only enter 60 days of information in the shareware
version. After registration this restriction is removed.
The registration form is in the file REGISTER.DOC
