THE ALL PROGRAMMERS NET
What is it?
-----------
50h Net is a message and file network devoted strictly to programming. It
was formed by programmers FOR programmers. Its purpose is to offer forums
for discussion's related to all aspects of programming ranging from topics
such as communications programming, programming your own web page, writing
a Windows or OS/2 program, to general languges including Basic, Pascal, C,
COBOL and FORTRAN, etc.
50h Net is perfect for both beginners and more experienced programmers. If
you're a beginning programmer who needs help learning a new language or if
you need to ask for help with certain commands in Pascal, C/C++, Basic, or
COBOL and Fortran, 50h Net has message echos for you.
If you're a more advanced programmer who wants to write programs for OS/2,
Windows, Communications, Encryption or Security purposes or who just wants
to learn more about something from other fellow programmers, you will find
a message area for you!
In addition to the message echos, there are also a number of filebones via
which tons of programming files are distributed. These include structures
for many popular programs, a lot of great source code in Pascal, C/++, and
Basic, programming utilities, programming reference lists, door libraries,
graphics formats, and lots of other assorted programming goodies!

50h Net Rules/Requirements
--------------------------
1. Handles are permitted in all the message areas. We're not here
to invade anyone's privacy in anyway. Real names may be signed
to any message at the leisure of the author of that message.
2. No color codes are permitted in any of the message areas. This
includes Renegade's | and ^ codes, PCBOARD's @ codes, all 8-bit
ASCII, all ANSI and any other form of color codes other systems
may use. Additional characters, such as these color codes, add
to the cost of transmitting information throughout the network.
We do not need color to help us express programming ideas. The
use of color codes also limits us to specific systems, and does
not allow a near universal form of data transmission.
3. You must use a front-end mailer such as the popular Front Door,
InterMail, Portal of Power, D'Bridge, BinkleyTerm, or any other
front end system. We do not support QWK mail transmissions for
echomail messages and we do not have them available through any
other sources such as the Internet. All mail/file transmission
is done through these front end mailers.
4. All connected systems MUST support a transfer rate of 2400 baud
or higher. New 14.4 and faster modems can be found quite cheap
today, and used 2400 modems can be purchased for $10-$15!
5. Profanity is prohibited in all areas!! This message network is
available to anyone who may read it, including young kids. The
use of profanity is highly unnecessary when sharing programming
ideas. Once in a while, it is understandable that a person may
slip. They will be warned, and excessive use will force action
to be taken. People of all ages do read the messages here, and
it is vital that we all act in a mature and adult-like manor.
What does it cost?
------------------
Nothing at all. This net is totally free of charge to all connected
boards. The only cost is that of the phone call to pick up mail from
their hub or host.
How do I join?
--------------
All you need to do is contact your local 50h Net node for the latest
Information / Info Pack and Application Kit. You may Freq "50HINFO"
(without quotes of course) from the 50h Net HQ for the lastest pack.
It is available at any of the below addresses. This node uses a USR
Sportster v.34 supporting speeds up to 33.6k. FREQs are allowed any
time.

FIDO : 1:2619/232
ITC : 85:860/0
RGS : 50:58/0
50h : 101:101/0
Once you get your hands on and application pack, un-compress it and run
the file 50H-APP.EXE to automatically create a short text file with the
information needed about your BBS. Be sure to include and special info
about your BBS such as 28.8 modem speeds and flags or if you would like
to be a State Host or hub for your area. Once the application file has
been created, you must netmail it to either your state host if there is
one, or send it directly to Brian Niegocki at the 50h Network WHQ. The
address is 101:101/0.
You should be sure to compile a copy of the nodelist so that you have a
node address to send it to! If you don't compile a 50h nodelist, there
won't be a 101:101/0 to send to!
You should also setup a temp 50h Net address starting with 101. You do
this where you would put your actual 50h Net address and will be edited
once you are given one. Use 101, your state # if you know it, followed
with 9's. A few examples are 101:999/999 or 101:999/99 or 101:100/999.
If you know your state host's address please send them them application
as it will be processed MUCH faster. Each State Host is responsible to
assign you a node # in that state. By sending it directly to them, the
turn-around time is much quicker. You can find your state host through
searching the latest 50h Net nodelist. If there is not state host, then
of course you may send it straight to the 50h Net HQ.
Once your application is reviewed, you will be assigned a node number &
told where to poll. You should also be sent an updated nodelist either
with that message, or on your first poll. If you cannot be reached via
netmail, we can not set you up. Every BBS must be able to send/receive
netmail. Allow AT LEAST 7-10 days for your application to be processed
and a node number to be assigned. Nodelists are released weekly w/ the
updates added.
Thank You.
