What's New in Recent Versions

What's New?

Things of note which are new in recent versions:

ArcWeb has gained its own GIF decoder so it no longer has to rely on ChangeFSI/gif2spr
to provide image translation.

New in less recent versions (the further down the list, the older the feature/fix):

PrintWeb takes into account the current printer paper size settings (
or defaults to A4 if isn't loaded

Frames via lists of links

Cookie support added

META and LINK tags are stored and can be viewed by clicking Adjust on
on the toolbar or by clicking
on the More Information button in the About dialogue box.

Preformatted text layout is much better

Authentication database much enhanced. Now features:

Storing of FTP passwords

Correct handling of multiple realms per HTTP server

All password information is encrypted in the Auth_DB file

JPEG plotting code more consistent (can handle JPEGs with non-default
DPI settings

Client-side imagemaps (same document only)

FTP upload provides status updates

Interactive web page design

FTP upload

local: URLs can be made case-sensitive

Background image plotting should be much better now

Drag'n'Drop protocol now supported - so you can drag the URLs from the URL icon out to
other places.

I've fixed a major fault in the global history handling which was causing random exits
whenever the global history filled up.

Cache is more configurable (see its configuration window)

More resilient networking code - no obvious outward signs of this except a decrease in
the number of failed connections to proxies, hopefully.

Image menu added so that you can export (most of) the images from web pages

DrawFiles are exported `cleanly' now, so Draw doesn't complain about some of the objects.

Width & Height attributes to the img tag are supported

Email sending no longer causes a weird silent exit, and the result of trying to e-mail is
displayed in a dialogue box too.

New DNS Resolver code included to provide secondary cacheing, and to search out system
variables contaning resolver configuration information when the resconf configuration file
is not found.

ArcWeb now uses Dynamic Areas on a Risc PC (the amount of memory to claim is configurable in
the Memory choices window)

ArcWeb can take advantage of Virtualise ® in order to make those dynamic areas virtual.
Control of virtual memory is via the Virtualise frontend, or a simple on/off switch in the
Memory choices window in ArcWeb.

ADJUST click on the Reload button just resizes the display

Image size detection fixed again

Shouldn't prompt you to confirm a quit if there are no windows open and no activity

Renderer should finally manage to multitask multiple renders, although this will use
quite a bit of CPU time, I would have thought

Major memory leak fixed (1.5Kb per page viewed!)

Image sizes should be calculated better in non-square modes, so imagemaps will work better

Hot keys are detected on menus and are not right justified by the Wimp any more.

Multithreading fixed so that structures belonging to one thread don't get
deallocated by others whilst the other is still actively using the structure.

Debug information sent to RAM:$.WebRegs if DumpRegisters variable is set.

A lot more information in the user manual pages.

Other misc fixes

Massive bug in message reception function fixed. This would have caused
random Address Exceptions.

Anchors work again - they were broken in 1.27 and possibly before that too.

RISC OS 3.1 should no longer die when I delete windows due to the WindowManager
bug. I have added code to defer window deletion until the Wimp does not have
any icon slabbed in.

Nothing was being automatically run (even 'safe' types) due to me failing
to read the top of PRM 1-310 regarding the fact that os_read_var_val
can return an error, even if it succeeds.

gopher code rewritten to handle EOL correctly

Bug in email handling (caused a crash) fixed

Mouse pointer changes shape whilst over a hyperlink

spurious window openings and crashes when using dialogue boxes have been
fixed (bug in RISC_OSlib)

History window has a menu to allow you to flush it

Won't open archives automatically, but will force you to save them before
opening. This is a security feature as much as anything else

More modules included in the !System directory

The low memory handler contained a massive bug which resulted in the render
of a page stalling if there wasn't enough memory for an image conversion.
This could quite possibly have caused other weird errors for people who ran
low on memory.
