  5. Mid 1945 in the RAF RADAR BULLETIN there appeared the following ditty. Its
  6. message is still valid 47 years later !!
  7.  
  8. There is a good lesson to be learned from some unknown bard around 1945.

  10.                            THE LAST POSTING.
  11.                            -----------------

  13.        "Lor love a duck," said the mech, "that's done it!
  14.         Just me alone with the gear to run it,
  15.     *   The TO's off on an admin course,
  16.     *   The WO's posted to Stoke Holy Cross,
  17.         Corporal Plum is in dock with the measles,--
  18.         No one to give me a hand with the Diesels!
  19.         We had two Canadians, but ain't that a laugh,
  20.     *   Last Friday they posted them to Second TAF.
  21.         No more mechanical personnel
  22.         Left on the station. Ain't war Hell!
  23.         Saw the CO and he's rung up Wing,
  24.         All of them say that they can't do a thing.
  25.         They blame it all on to Records, Gloucester.
  26.         Looks like I go on a one watch roster!"

  28.         He beats on his breast and rages at Fate
  29.         Till a signal comes--"You're posted, Mate."
  30.         Posted! The very last mechanic!
  31.         None on the station---bags of panic--!
  32.  
  33.         Nobody ventured to touch the set,
  34.         But it went all right, and it's going yet,
  35.         Just as it did in the days before
  36.         When it had maintenance galore.
  37.         So if they post every Mech from your station
  38.         Don't let it fill you with consternation,
  39.         Don't be downhearted, never moan,
  40.         Just leave the God-darn stuff alone!
