  39. 1.  General
  40. ============
  41. This version includes the DOS, Windows 3.x and NetWare CAPI software
  42.  
  43.                         V3.00 for the ix1-basic board.
  44.                                        
  45. This version of the drivers for DOS, Windows 3.x and NetWare support
  46. the ix1-basic boards for the ISA-, MCA- and PCI-Bus.
  47. The manual "ix1 Installation and Interfaces" belongs to this software.
  48. With a seperate download software and a fax/modem expansion, the modem 
  49. operation of up to 14400 bit/s via CAPI is supported. 
  50. For this the B2-protocol modem (0x0c) has to be adjusted. 
  51. The bin file called "ixmodem" is available on the express server or
  52. can be downloaded from our web-server.
  53.  
  54.  
  55. 2.  CAPI2.0 / CAPI1.1 / CAPIplus
  56. =================================
  57. The DOS/NetWare drivers are "Multi"-Capi drivers. This means they support
  58. CAPI2.0, CAPI1.1 and CAPIplus. CAPI2.0, CAPI1.1 and CAPIplus applications
  59. can be started at the same time on the PC.
  60. The B channel protocols bit Transparent, HDLC Transparent, V.110, T.90, 
  61. ISO 8208 and FAX group 3 with 14400 bit/s are supported according to CAPI1.1 
  62. supplements. 
  63. The B channel protocols bit Transparent, HDLC Transparent, T.30, modem, X.75,
  64. LAPD for D Channel X.25, T.90NL, ISO 8208 are supported according to CAPI2.0.

  66. For the protocols modem and T.30, the FAX/Modem hardware supplement is needed.

  69. 3. X.25 Support 
  70. ===============
  71. This software supports the following X.25 modi:
  72.    B channel: X.31 case A (no bitrate adaption)
  73.               X.31 case B
  74.    D Channel: X.31 case B

  77. 4. Network Protocol Variants
  78. ============================
  79. The ix1-basic board is adjusted by default to the D-channel protocol
  80. Euro-ISDN (DSS-1).
  81.  
  82. If the ix1 board is to be operated with another D channel protocol, it has to be
  83. configured appropriately with the utility 'SETLINE'.
  84. The use of SETLINE is described in the manual "ix1 Installation and Interfaces".
  85.  
  86. The Euro-protocol (Euro-ISDN/NET3/DSS-1) and the protocol variants
  87. 1TR6 (Germany), VN3 (France), Norway Phase 1 (Norway), 
  88. Q.931 (CCITT blue book), Cornet N, National ISDN 1, 5ESS and ECMA Q.SIG
  89. belong to the standard scope of delivery of the board software.
  90. If the protocol variant VN4 (France) is to be used, Q.931 has to be set.

  92. Especially for several TK-systems that do not support the info element
  93. "Sending Complete" in setup, there is now the protocol DSS1-TK.
  94.  
  95. In the following some examples for the possible settings:
  96.  
  97.         SETLINE -D 0 <RETURN>   selects 1TR6 
  98. or 
  99.         SETLINE -D 3 <RETURN>   selects VN3 (France)
  100. or 
  101.         SETLINE -D 8 <RETURN>   selects Norway Phase 1 (Norway)

  104. 4.1 US Network Protocol Support
  105. =====================================
  106. With this version of download software the US network protocol 
  107. variants National ISDN 1 (NI-1), DMS-100 and 5ESS are supported. 
  108. After every download SPID and Directory Number(DN) have to be configured
  109. with the utility SETCOMP on the board. Please note that for any 
  110. ISDN Interface in 5ESS a SPID has to be set, and in NI-1 two SPIDs and two 
  111. DNs have to be set.

  113. In the following some examples for the settings:
  114.  
  115.         SETCOMP  -S 1234,56,7890,57   configures SPID and DN for NI-1
  116.                                       SPID1=1234,DN1=56;SPID2=7890,DN2=57
  117. or
  118.         SETCOMP  -S 1234              configures SPID for 5ESS
  119.                                       SPID1=1234

  122. 5. Leased Lines
  123. ===============
  124. The ix1 software for the ix1-basic board supports the following leased lines
  125. within the area of the Deutsche Bundespost Telekom
  126.  
  127.   a) D64S      (0 D channel, 1 B channel)
  128.      (is currently supported with CAPIplus only)
  129.   b) DS01/TS01 (1 D channel, 1 B channel)
  130.   c) DS02/TS02 (1 D channel, 2 B channels)
  131.  
  132. The variant D64S2 is supported with the next version. Beta versions
  133. will approximately be available from october 96.
  134.  
  135. For the different types the following line settings are to be done with
  136. the utility SETLINE:
  137.   a) D64S (0 D channel, 1 B channel)
  138.      Since no D channel is available, the settings referring to NT-TE
  139.      side are ignored. For the bandwidth, bit 3 is set to 2x64 Kbit. 
  140.      Hence, for LineAccess the resulting value is
  141.           10111=23(dez)        (setline -l 23)
  142.  
  143.   b) DS01/TS01 (1 D Channel, 1 B Channel)
  144.      For regular operation the two subscribers (A and B) of the leased line 
  145.      have to be configured differently. Bit 2 has to be set on NT-side for A,
  146.      and on TE-side for B.
  147.      For the bandwidth, bit 3 is set on 2x64 Kbit.
  148.      Hence, the resulting values for LineAccess are
  149.            A (NT) = 00111 = 7   (setline -d 0 -l 7)
  150.            B (TE) = 00011 = 3   (setline -d 0 -l 7)
  151.  
  152.   c) DS02/TS02 (1 D channel, 2 B channels)
  153.      For regular operation the two subscribers (A and B) of the leased line 
  154.      have to be configured differently. Bit 2 has to be set on NT-side for A,
  155.      and on TE-side for B.
  156.      For the bandwidth, bit 3 is set on 2x128 Kbit, that means that the two 
  157.      B channels are bundeled.
  158.      Hence, the resulting values for LineAccess are
  159.            A (NT) = 01111 = 15(dez) (setline -d 0 -l 15)
  160.            B (TE) = 01011 = 11(dez) (setline -d 0 -l 11)

  163. 6. Installation under DOS
  164. =========================
  165. The enclosed batch file CAPI.BAT can be called by the following parameters:
  166.  
  167.       CAPI <RETURN>           loads the board and the PC-driver
  168. or
  169.       CAPI -D <RETURN>        unloads the PC-driver (IXCAPI.COM)
  170. or
  171.       CAPI ? <RETURN>         gives out the instruction for CAPI.BAT
  172.  
  173. In the manual the additional parameter is not indicated.
  174.  
  175.  
  176. 7. Installation under NetWare
  177. =============================
  178. With this version ixinstal.nlm generates an editable ix1.ini file
  179. under NetWare.
  180.  
  181. Since PCI motherboards are not supported completely under Netware, problems
  182. can occur in the automatic installation of the ix1-basic
  183. (not ix1-basic PCI) board with ixinstal.nlm and PCI-Motherboards.
  184. Then you can enter the free interrupt and the I/O address into the ix1.ini
  185. file.
  186. Furthermore the mixed operation of ix1-basic and ix1-octo boards is supported 
  187. with this version. For this, you can pick the download file in the 
  188. ix1.ini file for any board. The line then has to look like the following:
  189.  
  190.   Downloadfile= ixo.bin     ; for the ix1-octo board
  191. respectively
  192.   Downloadfile= ix.bin      ; for the ix1-basic board
  193.  
  194. These versions of the NetWare utilities need the NBI.NLM by Novell that is
  195. available on the disc. Unfortunately this driver is dependent on the NetWare
  196. version. The install program copies the corresponding version. The current 
  197. patches by Novell that you can get via your NetWare dealer should be installed.
  198.  
  199.  
  200. 8. Certification
  201. ================
  202. ix1-boards with ISA-,Microchannel- and PCI-Bus are admitted by the 
  203. "Bundesamt fⁿr Zulassungen in der Telekommunikation" (BZT) under the 
  204. numbers A103702C, A105705D and D128251H.
  205. ISA- and Microchannel- boards were admitted under the CE-number CE 0167X 
  206. in Belgium, Denmark, UK, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, 
  207. the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden. 
  208. The PCI-board was admitted in the countries mentioned above under the number 
  209. CE 0560X.
  210. In France ISA- and Microchannel- boards have the admission number 95231B.
  211. The ISA board has the admission number 95.0488.I.N in Switzerland, the 
  212. Microchannel board has the number 950489.I.N and the PCI-board has the 
  213. number 96.0600.I.N.
  214.  
  215. The admissions were given for Point-to-Multipoint-, Point-to-Point- (NT1-)
  216. connections and for leased lines.
  217. Further information can be inquired at our product support (-250).
  218.  
  219. 9.  ix1-basic PCI support
  220. =========================
  221. This software version supports the ix1-basic PCI board for
  222. DOS/Windows 3.x and NetWare. 
  223. The following system requirements are needed for the ix1-basic PCI:
  224.  
  225.     * 1 free PCI slot for ix1-basic PCI
  226.  
  227.     * 1 free interrupt (IRQ) from the following ones:
  228.         ix1-basic PCI supports all the available interrupts
  229.  
  230.         * 3 blocks of port addresses (64 Byte,8Byte and 8Byte)
  231.             all the possible addresses are supported
  232.  
  233. 10. Problems / Remarks / History
  234. ================================
  235. a) The Fax/Modem expansion is recognized automatically with this version.
  236.    Hence, the utility SETFAX is not needed anymore. With the utility
  237.    RDEEPROM the current configuration can be inquired. 
  238.  
  239. b) With this version the capi.dll needs an environment variable with
  240.    the name 'ix1dir' in order to find the configuration file ix1.cnf. 
  241.    If you are using the capi.dll under Windows, for standard installation 
  242.    you should take over the following line into the file autoexec.bat: 
  243.         set ix1dir=c:\ix1
  244.  
  245. c) With this version a capi20.dll is delivered. This DLL puts on onto
  246.    the DOS-Capi, despite this the application memory can be larger than 1MB.
  247.    The starting of this DLL does not lead any more to a system error, if the
  248.    DOS-Capi hasn't been loaded.
  249.  
  250. d) Referring to the compression, the present version is NOT compatible with
  251.    former versions! Data connections between the current version
  252.    and an older version work uncompressedly.
  253.  
  254. e) With the utility SETCOMP the utilized way of compression can be preoccupied.
  255.    The following variants are supported:
  256.       SETCOMP -c 0    switches off compression
  257.       SETCOMP -c 1    V.42bis according to standard
  258.       SETCOMP -c 2    ITK compression (better in partly compressed
  259.                         data) (default setting)
  260.       SETCOMP -c 3    optional compression (board offers V.42bis AND ITK 
  261.                         compression). The called subscriber can then determine 
  262.                         the method. If both have chosen optional, ITK 
  263.                         compression is used.
  264.       SETCOMP -c 4    The compression can be determined through the CAPIplus 
  265.                       application, by the ITK MPR for example.
  266.  
  267. f) For the CAPI1.1 interface a MSN-Mapping is supported. The table has to be
  268.    configured with the utility SETCOMP after any download.
  269.  
  270. g) The current download file needs the enclosed bootfile ixboot.scr.
  271.  
  272. h) In order to use the T-Online decoder of Telekom under Windows 3.x, 
  273.    the following line has to be inserted into the file autoexec.bat:
  274.    cd \ix1
  275.    call capi
  276.    By this, CAPI is started completely.
  277.  
  278. i) In the version 3.0 it can come to a misbehavior of the board software at
  279.    simultaneous fax and non-fax connections. This problem is repaired in the
  280.    present version.
  281.  
  282. j) The VirtualCAPI for NetWare will not be supported by this driver software in
  283.    any case.
