  6. What is it?
  7. -----------
  8. PGP QuickStart is a Windows utility designed to help people who
  9. want to use strong crypto, easily download, install, and configure
  10. PGP.
  11.  
  12. PGP QuickStart is not a full-featured front-end.  It's only purpose is
  13. to simplify PGP's installation process.  It is meant as a companion 
  14. application for Private Idaho, for people who need to initially get 
  15. started with PGP before they start using a front-end/shell.

  17. If you're an experienced PGP and/or Private Idaho user, you don't
  18. need this utility.  This is something you give or recommend to your
  19. crypto-novice friends when they want to start exchanging encrypted
  20. e-mail with you.

  23. Installing
  24. ----------
  25. INSTALL.EXE is a self-extracting .ZIP file.  It contains the following
  26. files:

  28. PGPQUIK.EXE -  The PGP QuickStart application
  29. PCDEZIP.EXE -  An application PGP QuickStart uses to uncompress files
  30. QSREADME.TXT - The file you're reading now
  31. CMDIALOG.VBX - A support file - if this file isn't already in your
  32.                \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, move it there

  34. PGP QuickStart requires the VBRUN300.DLL file (which isn't included in
  35. the .ZIP archive).  This file needs to be in the \WINDOWS directory.

  42. -------
  43. Just run PGP QuickStart and it was take you step-by-step through the
  44. entire installation and configuration process.

  46. It assumes you have access to the Internet and a Web browser (for
  47. downloading copies of PGP and looking up other information sources).

  52. This is a beta release.  My goal is to make this utility so simple,
  53. anyone can use it to get PGP and install it.  I think I'm going in the
  54. right direction, but please send any comments on the interface (or
