1. ABOUT THIS VERSION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is V2.0 of ZOC. It is available as shareware and from
software stores/mail order houses.
These versions are identical in functionallity and similar or
same in price. They are just distributed through different
channels.
If you purchased ZOC, please ignore the parts about shareware (the
shareware version is a 30 days try-before-buy version). However,
the software license that comes with the purchased ZOC versions
works for the shareware version as well. This way you can obtain
updates from a BBS near you or from the ZOC support BBS (see below).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
2. DISTRIBUTION, COPYRIGHT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ZOC is (C) 1993-1995 by Markus Schmidt
You may use and test the shareware version for 30 days, then you
have to register or remove it from your system.
No warranty of any kind can be given for damage caused through
ZOC directly or indirectly or any other way.
The unregistered shareware version of ZOC may be distributed
freely via telecommunication, shareware dealers or as a free add
on for hard- or software products in form of an unmodified ZIP
archive, or as unzipped files in an single directory with the
name ZOC and with no file added, removed or modified.
The following restrictions apply to distribution.
* ZOC must not be used in an army environment or for purposes
that are related to military or arms production.
* ZOC may be included into shareware CDs if the ZIP file is
left intact or if all files from the ZIP file are provided
in a single directory named ZOC.
Two copies of the CD should be sent to EmTec, Markus Schmidt
(address below).
* ZOC must not be sold as unregistered shareware for more than
$5/DM 7 (that includes shipping). If you purchased ZOC from a
dealer paying more (or get knowledge of such a dealer), notify
him of this regulation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
3. INSTALLATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
To install ZOC just type INSTALL at a command prompt. The WPS
install program will handle the rest.
If you encounter problems of any kind, please try to install
ZOC into a fresh directory of your boot drive without importing
files from a prior ZOC version.
Note: ZOC should not be installed over or importing from an
existing beta version of ZOC.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
4. REGISTRATION/ORDERS FROM SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you need any information about ordering or obtaining a software
license for the shareware version, see Help for Registration in
the help menu of ZOC.
Here's a quick summary:
The shareware version of ZOC is fully functional in any way. It
just shows the order form after every download.
When you register (or if you purchased ZOC) you receive a software
license code, that unlocks all shareware versions of ZOC up to
a certain version number.
If you want to register, just fill out the order form and send me a
hardcopy. You find my address and prices in the helpfile and on the
printed order form.
I am prepared to handle payment from foreign countries. Registration
sites are available for USA/Canada and Australia. Please check
the order form window for addresses and phone numbers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
5. TAP_GIF.EXE / TAP_JPG.EXE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TAP_GIF.EXE and TAP_JPG.EXE are online picture viewers for downloads.
They were written by Markus Goemmel, using the developer interface
(see below) of ZOC.
They can be started manually before, or automatically at the begin
of a GIF/JPG download (even if downloaded via external protocol).
They are quite self explanatory.
If you have questions about them, write to m.goemmel@msn.rmi.de
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
6. PIPCISB.DLL / PIPKERM.DLL
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
ZOC contains an interface for implementation of sophisticated
external file transfer protocols. Two such protocols are bundled
with the ZOC package:
PIPCISB.DLL (an implementation of the CompuServe B+ protocol)
PIPKERM.DLL (an implementation of the Kermit Protocol)
If you have questions about them, write to m.goemmel@msn.rmi.de
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
7. ZOCBK PHONE BOOK CONVERTER/ZOC RELATED FILES
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
There already is a freeware phone book converter (from Telix and
Telemate to ZOC). It is a DOS command line program and can be
found as ZOCBKxxx.ZIP.
It is available from CompuServe's OS2SHARE forum and from the
ZOC support BBS (see help file or below).
If you have questions about ZOCBK, please contact:
Author : Hans Juergen Rauscher, Germany
FIDO : 2:2440/225.10@fidonet.org
InterNet : Hans-Juergen_Rauscher@project.fido.de
CompuServe : 100346,2105
Telefax : +49-(0)2182-57329
Others will show up and the ZOCDEV.ZIP (developer info) file contains
a skeleton C source for such a converter.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
8. DEVELOPER INFOMATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are interested in developing add ins for ZOC you should
try to find a version of ZOCDEV.ZIP (eg. from CompuServe).
This file contains everything (including sample source code) needed
for developing TAPs (file transfer add ons) or PIPs (file transfer
protocols).
If you plan to implement the terminal side of PIPs or TAPs, you
can request the source code used for servicing these from me. It
would be a big step forward if the OS/2 family would have a
standard for external protocols (like XPR for the Amiga world).
