ANSWERS
1) Is there a web page with more information (screen shots, walkthroughs,
etc.)?
This site is it as far as we know. If any others develop, do let
us know!
2) Are there any cheats for the game?
SPOILER : There is a potential for cheating if you look in the
Promo directory, and load the programmers saved games.
3) Do I gain levels (How do I improve my skills?)
Experience is not based on levels. Sword, Shield and Spellcraft
skills can be purchased from various NPCs, as well as learned
through extensive use in the particular area.
4) Where can I find the original Faery Tale Adventure?
Unfortunately the Original FTA was converted for the IBM, but it
was a poor conversion, and we would not recommend looking for it
if you really want to experience the first game. There is an
Amiga Emulator that can be used to run the Amiga version on your
PC, which IS the original format. Please refer to the following
address for more information :
5) Are the Brothers affected by the environment (do they get cold, hot,
etc.)?
The brothers are subject to the elements, so dress accordingly,
or wear the appropriate items.
6) What are the Obelisks and how do I use them?
The Obelisks allow the brothers to travel across Farr by opening
gates over the world.
7) How do I get started (where do I go, what do I do)?
New players should read EVERYTHING they find, as scrolls, books
and parchments relate the entire story to the player. As a
general rule of thumb, it is wise to begin adventuring around
Padavis in a small circle, gradually expanding the circle. You
will gain knowledge as you play, and you can also use the two
chapter walkthroughs to help you get started.
8) Are there maps to help with the game?
Players can access the user-created maps from the FTA2 Web Page
9) Is there any technical support (can I get a bug resolved)?
There is LIMITED customer support from Encore Software, which can
be reached at :310-342-0610. The creators of the game, The
Dreamers Guild unfortunately went out of business when the game
was launched, so there is little chance of any bug fixes at this
time.
10) How does the inventory system work?
FTA2's inventory is very simple. You can store bags within bags
within bags if you choose. When you see something in the game
environment that you want to store, simply get close enough to
pick it up, open the storage device you have (bag, box, packet,
chest, etc.), pick up the object, and place it in an empty slot.
There are 9 main slots for each brother that allow quick access
(usually for armor, weapons, etc.).
11) Is the game (non)linear (do I have to solve certain parts before
others)?
The game is nonlinear, meaning you can solve any portion at any
time you like. There is no set path required to solve the game.
12) Why does my game crash when I select a brothers portrait?
This is the infamous 255 mana bug. There is a gliche in the
program that causes a crash when a brother has reached a mana
level above 255. The player can either hex edit the brothers
stats to correct the problem, or load a previous saved game. OR
- if you have a mana potion in that color, you can drink it while
at full strength to 'decrease' back to your maximum of 255.
13) What is the significance of Roska's Heart?
SPOILER : Acquiring Roska's Heart allows for a different game
ending. The heart is obtained using the Object of Hope.
14) What is/are the best weapons and armor (how can I tell which are better
that others)?
There are several "special" weapons and armor that can be found
throughout the game world. The best way to tell when one weapon
is better that another is to use the hack test (equip the new
weapon and attack a monster, count the number of hits to kill it,
then equip a new weapon and compare). You can also take the
weapons or armor to the shop in Maldavith (which offers the best
price for all items) and compare the prices offered for the
various pieces of equipment. Check the website for the
armor/weapons page, which will go into armor in more detail.
15) Are there any sub-quests?
There are a handful of sub-quests within the game. They are not
critical to solving the game, and can be accomplished at any time
if the player chooses to do so.
16) What is the Sextant used for?
The Sextant is used to determine the brothers coordinates on the
game world map (in order to know your reference to specific
places on the map, i.e. with reference to the Amber Castle, etc.)
17) Can I store items for later use?
Unfortunately that is not allowed. If you store items in a chest,
and return to the town later, the items will be gone. You can
pick up and use important items (scrolls, books, etc.) and leave
them where they were found without them being removed.
18) Can I lose game critical items (tapstones, etc.)?
If you accidentally remove or drop game critical items
(tapstones) etc., they will remain where they fell (you can go
back and pick them up).
19) Can I complete the game with only one brother?
Is appears that there are a few places requiring at least two
brothers to proceed. But using a little ingeniuty, you can solve
it with only one.
20) How do I keep the brothers statistics proportional?
This is a bit tedious, but can be accomplished. Simply let
different brothers take the lead (band the other brothers to
them) while adventuring, and build up their various skills
accordingly.
21) Can dead brothers carry items?
Dead brothers can carry inventory proportional to the weight they
could carry in life.
22) How do you search dead monsters?
Simply double-click on the monster, revealing the inventory for
that enemy, take what you like, and close the box by clicking on
the X in the left-hand corner.
23) How do I ask NPCs questions?
Select a brother's portrait, click on the image of the head in
the lower left-hand corner, then select the IDEAS colored band.
Select the topic to discuss, and "drop" it on the NPC (i.e. drop
the idea SHOP on the bartender to get a list of his wares).
24) How do I use spells?
Select a brother's portrait, click on the image of the head in
the lower left-hand corner, then select the SPELLS colored band.
Then select the spell you wish to use (note : spells are learned
by reading scrolls, and are represented by different graphic
icons, with the number of times you can cast the spell listed
when the cursor is over the icon).
25) How can I check my statistics?
Select a brother's portrait, click on the image of the head in
the lower left-hand corner, then select the STATISTICS colored
band. Move the cursor over the different icons to learn the skill
level in that particular area.
26) Does gold/jewels effect me encumbrance (how much can I carry)?
These items do not effect the total weight allowed to carry (a
player is only allowed to carry 32,955 Soverigns, the rest are
lost).
27) Are items more or less costly depending on where you shop?
Yes. The various shops and merchants offer different prices for
goods, and offer to pay more/less (the best place to sell goods
is in Maldavith).
28) Are there multiple endings to the game?
Yes. There are four different endings to the game.
29) Can I resize my play screen and remove the portraits on the right?
No, resizing is not allowed.
30) Is one brother better suited than another for certain skills?
It is uncertain whether or not one brother can perform better at
certain skills that the other (at the beginning of the game).
The original version allowed for each brother to be specific in
one area, but FTA2 you customize the brothers the way you see
fit.
31) Are there any bugs to be aware of?
Yes. There is a bug in the magic system. Do not allow a brother
to reach a mana level above 255, or the game could crash when
that brothers portrait is selected. This is the only 'known' bug
released by the programmers. And no, as of now there is no plan
for a patch to fix this.
32) What are the magic fountains used for?
These fountains are used to restore magic wands. Simple select
the wand from your inventory, and click on the fountain to
re-charge the wand.
33) Can you kill (what happens if you kill) and NPC?
You can kill NPCs, and there does not appear to be any
repercussions for doing so.
34) Can you steal items from NPCs and houses in the game (what are the
consequences)?
There are no consequences to stealing plates, flowers, cups, etc.
The only real use for them is to sell the for starting cash.
35) What if I stack one bomb onto another (or acid onto acid)?
This should be avoided, as is causes quite a "mess" in your
inventory.
