  4. Over a million cases of poisoning occur in the United States each
  5. year, most involving young children. Obviously, then, PREVENTION of
  6. poisoning should be the concern of every parent with young
  7. children. ALL substances likely to cause poinsoning should be kept
  8. away from inquiring youngsters!
  9.  
  10. Since various poisons cause different symptoms, and because
  11. treatments vary depending upon the substance injested, the first
  12. step in the event of poisoning is to call the local POISON CONTROL
  13. CENTER! DO NOT WAIT FOR SYMPTOMS TO OCCUR! IDENTIFY THE NATURE
  14. OF
  15. THE POISON AND RECEIVE SPECIFIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE
  16. PROFESSIONAL STAFF AT THE CENTER!

  18. All poisoning victims need to be monitored carefully for signs of
  19. shock or impaired consciousness.
  20.  
  21. Every household should keep ACTIVATED CHARCOAL & SYRUP OF IPECAC on
  22. hand for possible use in poisoning emergencies, however they should
  23. not be administered unless instructed by the Poison Control Center
  24. staff.
