Phonebook V2.00 - Written using AMOS Proffessional by Andrew "Mushroom"
Kellett (C) Kellett Productions Ltd. September 1995
This version of the program is SHAREWARE, so please copy it and give it to
all of your friends and loved ones throughout the world. I also
allow this program to be put on any CD compilation, as long as this
document is kept along with the program.
Any data you lose by accidental erasure, or misuse, or any other possible
form of damage to your datadisks, is in no way at all my responsibility. You
use this program at your own risk, so I reccomend that you make regular
backup copys of your datadisks, as I have been known to spill the odd brew
or two on some of my floppys.
Running the program
-------------------
In order for this program to work, you will need AMOS.LIBRARY in your
LIBS: drawer. I cut it out of the executable, as it added a lot to the size
of the compiled program. A version with the library built in is available
on request.
Note to hard disk users !!!
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
This program WILL work using the HD as the data disk providing you follow
any of the below methods :
1. If you are familiar with FMSDisk, a utility that lets you create a floppy
disk on the HD. Format this as DATA_DISK: and make a directory called
PHONEBOOK, as all information is stored in this directory. So long as the
FF0 or whatever is mounted, this will be used as the datadisk.
2. Create a directory somewhere on the HD, and in the startup-sequence of
the HD, assign DATA_DISK: to this directory. Inside the directory, make
the directory PHONEBOOK, for the information to be stored.
** If you know of any other methods to get to work on the HD then feel free
to add the instructions to the above list.
I have a directory on the root of the disk, because all of my other programs
can use the same datadisk, just under a different directory. This also
allows for all my programs to multi-task with the files made from all my
other databases.
Using the program
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
When the program first loads, it gives you a bit of information, so to skip
these pages keep clicking the left button on "Click me to continue", where
you will then be presented with the main title screen :
Create a new phonebook entry (1)
View an existing phonebook entry (2)
Amend an existing phonebook entry (3)
Delete an existing phonebook entry (4)
View existing records list (5)
Also displayed on the screen, is the number of bytes left on the datadisk,
so that you know if you are running out of space. There now follows the
instructions for each of the above options. Just jump to the number that
you are unsure of if you get stuck.
1. Create new phonebook entry
-----------------------------
When this is selected, the program draws up a screen with all the
information that you can enter. You first start off by entering your
christian name(s) using the keyboard. The delete key works for if you make a
mistake.
Once done, press RETURN and enter your surname. Now, you can do this for
all of the other entries, and pressing RETURN on its own will leave a line
blank. When entering telephone numbers, you can only enter numbers and
spaces.
When the last piece of data has been entered, three buttons will appear
on the bottom of the screen, SAVE RECORD TO DISK, RE-ENTER INFORMATION or
SCRAP RECORD. The first will save the record to the disk. If you have left
the name and surname columns blank, then the program will not allow you to
save to the data disk. RE-ENTER lets you enter the information again. The
old info is preserved as you go along, so you can edit it if you need to, or
RETURN will just keep what was underneath. SCRAP RECORD will return you back
to the main menu without saving.
2. View existing phonebook record
---------------------------------
A requester at the top of the screen asks you to enter the name of the
person who's record you wish to look for. Type in the name as "Andrew
Kellett" or whatever, as the names are joined in saving, and if the computer
finds the record, it will load it and display it on the screen.
On the buttons, you can either load in a new record for viewing, batch
the current record to the printer connected to the parallel device, or
return back to the main menu.
3. Amend an existing phonebook entry
------------------------------------
Enter the name of the record holder in the same fashion as the previous
option, and then you can re-edit any of the information on the screen.
Pressing ENTER on it's own, will preserve whatever was underneath.
4. Delete an existing phonebook entry
-------------------------------------
Again, enter the name of the record holder in the same fashion as option
2, and if the file exists, you will get a last chance to say if you want the
file deleted. Click on YES to do it, or NO to abort the operation, and
return to the main menu.
5. View existing records list
-----------------------------
All of the records stored in Data_Disk:Phonebook/ are listed on the
scren, so that you can have a bit of a look to see how many names you have
got, and whose you have and whose you don't. Click on the button to return
to the menu.
REGISTERING YOUR VERSION

If you use this program regulary, and would like to subscribe for a
slightly improved version, then send a cheque for 5 pounds made payable to

E-Mail: mush@sneech.demon.co.uk
Please remember, that I do not own the actual E-Mail address, but a
friend of mine is running it for me. It could be a couple of days before
I can reply back to your messages.
You will also receive other shareware programs of mine, plus any demos I
am working on at the time of subscription.
So what is in the full version?
---------------------------------
The complete full version is not quite ready, as I need a bit of input
from the people who use the program. As well as the things that are in the
demo version, there is also the ability to search through records for a
name or number.
Also, I am thinking of adding a buisness list, so that you can enter
any buisness information in a different format than that of an address. I
am alos considering wether or not to have PowerPacker involvement in the
data files, to save even more space on the disk for the user.
All of the above are in the making, but to really help out, I need some
really good suggestions for improving the program, mainly the type of
things that you would enter into a buisness address, and any new sections
you think I should add. I would be gratefull if you sent all comments and
suggestions to my address above, or E-Mail them to me if you have access.
Please note, that the E-Mail address is not my own, but has kindly been set
up for me by a good friend, so it could be a couple of days before you get
an E-Mail reply. All people who contribute essential ideas to the final
construction of the program, will receive £1.50 knocked off the full
price. Can't say fairer than that !!
If you are already a registered user of any of my games or utilities,
then you also get £1.50 off the full version of this utility.
EXTREME AMOS !!!
----------------
Are you interested in AMOS? Do you want to get up to date with the
latest source code, programs, utilities and games? If you are new to the
AMOS scene, do you want to learn how to program like the professionals? If
the answer is yes, then Extreme AMOS is THE disk magazine for you !!
It comes on 2 disks packed full of hints, tips, source code, tutorials,
with lots of different articles including new things like fantasy football,
which has previously not been seen in any other disk magazine. Each issue
costs £2.00, or £2.50 for overseas readers, and cheques can be made payable
to the above address, but state that you want the latest issue of EA.
At this time of writing, we are up to issue 2. Issue 1 is shareware, so
if you would like to get hold of this, send an SAE with 2 disks to the above
address, requesting that you want the shareware edition of Extreme AMOS.
MUSHROOM PD
-----------
Mushroom PD is an AMOS public domain library I have set up, dedicated
entirely to AMOS utilities, games, and source code. Membership to this
library is FREE, so if you wish to join, print out and fill in the
registration form document somewhere in this folder.
Disks cost no more than one pound (£1.50 abroad) per disk, except for
disks where the creator gets royalties. If you send in disks of your own
stuff, you can exchange them for programs etc. that you do not have. For a
more detailed list of the prices, see the shareware section of Extreme AMOS,
or write to the above address.
Well, I think it is time for me to depart from writing this document,
and carry on with the fully registered version. Remember, I would be
extremely gratefull to you if you sent me any tips and suggestions for
making the finished product even better.
Yours,
Andrew "Mushroom" Kellett
