>From the manual: "Become the king of the ring with all of your favorite WCW and
nWo wrestling superstars. Bring home the belt as you brawl your way to the top
of WCW, nWo, and the world! Only the strongest, most agile wrestlers will
survive. You're in control with all of the back-breaking, bone-jarring moves
you've cheered on TV."
Q: So what IS this game, anyway?
A: WCW vs. nWo: World Tour is a wrestling game. The object is to either pin
your opponent for a count of three or make him submit while in a hold.
Q: What's WCW?
A: WCW, or World Championship Wrestling, is a wrestling organization based in
Atlanta, Georgia, that is owned and run by Time Warner. The current head of WCW
is Eric Bischoff (whom is in the nWo roster of wrestlers for the game). WCW
has been around since 1991 and has ties back to the old National Wrestling
Alliance, with nearly one hundred wrestlers on its current roster from all over
the world.
Q: What's the nWo?
A: The nWo, or New World Order, is a renegade organization formed in 1996 by
Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Hulk Hogan. Their goal is no less than a hostile
takeover of WCW. Over the past two years, the nWo has recruited numerous
members, including current WCW head Eric Bischoff, whom used his power to the
nWo's advantage. The war between the nWo and WCW continues to this day.
Q: Whom are these other federations and wrestlers? They seem familiar..
A: Good observation. The makers of WCW vs. nWo: World Tour decided to add some
wrestlers from around the world, mostly Japan, in the game, which is based on
a Japanese game called Virtual Pro Wrestling 64. The problem: copyrights. If
they used an actual wrestler, they'd have to pay to use the name. However, the
game companies came up with a sneaky solution: make the wrestlers, but use a
fictitious name. It lets you have the wrestlers in the game but without having
to pay for them. You just have to know who you're looking for. :) Dead Or
Alive is similar to garbage federatios such as FMW, and Independent Union is
more or less Michinoku Pro.
Q: What secret characters are there?
A: So far, six secret characters have been discovered, and are accessable by
winning the League Challenges: Diamond Dallas Page, "Macho Man" Randy Savage,
Glacier, Wrath, Joe Bruiser, and Black Widow (Manami Toyota).
Q: OK, what options are there?
A: There are five different modes in WCW vs. nWo: World Tour.
WCW vs. nWo
-----------
You assemble a team of up to five wrestlers from WCW and the nWo, and battle
one-on-one to decide which organization comes out on top. The first wrestler
from each team will wrestle, with the winner facing the next opponent on the
opposing team. This will continue until all the wrestlers on one team are
eliminated. Then, presumably, the winner gets Nitro. :)
Exhibition Match
----------------
It's basically a normal match, pinfall, submission, countout, everything you've
come to expect in wrestling. There's four options:
- A singles match, one on one
- A tag team match, where you team with another wrestler against two opponents,
either in a straight tag team match--where it's one-on-one and you have to tag
your partner in--or all four wrestlers in at once
- A handicap match, where a tag team battles against a lone opponent
- A battle royal, where four wrestlers battle it out with one coming out on top.
League Challenge
----------------
This is the meat of the game. There are four separate federations, each with
championships in the heavyweight and tag team divisions. In addition, WCW and
DOA also have a cruiserweight championship. After beating all of the wrestlers
in the event, you square off against the league champion. If you beat the
league champion, you will be able to use them in other matches (be sure to
save in Options, though).
League
------
You create and compete in up to a 16-wrestler (or 8-team) round robin
tournament. Each wrestler faces every other wrestler, with 3 points for a win,
1 point for a draw and no points for a loss. The wrestler with the most points
at the end wins the tournament. If there is a tie, there will be a small
tournament bracket to decide who wins.
Tournament
----------
You create and compete in up to a 16-wrestler (or 8-team) single-elimination tournament. If an odd number of participants are chosen, the last one listed
