  1. MPP to MP2 README (english)

  4. This is th official version of my MPP to MP2 Converter programm. It is for converting MPP-files ("packetised 
  5. MPEG-Audio I Layer 2") - which are recorded with DVB98 or DVB2000 - into real MP2-files.

  7. Why this programm ? DVB98 and DVB2000 make is available to record digital audio data directly to a HD without
  8. any quality loss. But this recorded audio-data is the same uncutted audio stream which goes normaly to the 
  9. audio-processor in the mediamaster. The audio-stream have some aditional data (i.e. for synchronice audio and
  10. video), so in some cases if you play recorded MPP-files with your PC you can hear the extra data. This 
  11. programm give you the availablety to remove the "garbage" data from the MPP-file. After converting you have a
  12. real MP2-file without any additional data in it. Also the MP2-file begin ever with a MPEG-Header. Some
  13. players will not play MPEG-Audio if the file does not begin with a header.

  15. Choose one or more sources on the left side, use drag&drop to select the files you wish to convert, select a 
  16. destination directory and click the Convert Now button tu run the converter. Note: You can select different 
  17. sources but only one destination. So you can not convert MPP-Files with the same name from different directorys.

  19. While convrting you can see some informations about the actual file in progress (file-size and MPEG header 
  20. information). The top progressbar show you the progress of the actual file and the bottom progressbar the
  21. state of all progress. Every time you can interrupt the converting progress by clicking the Abort button, but
  22. the you selected files list will lost.

  24. if the convert-progress stops for a while, so that means that the programm is faster in converting as your
  25. computer can write the converted data to your harddisk.

  27. Note: Some providers transmitt the audiostream with a MP3-header. The converter can convert this files too.
  28.       The convertet files are named as *.mp3, but most of them are in MP2-Format.

  32. Hardware: X86- compatible computer (Intel Pentium, AMD K6, Cyrix/IBM 6x86 or so), much faster is much better.
  33.           One or more fast harddisks with 200 KB free spaces for the programm and lot of space for your MPP- and
  34.           MP2-files.

  36. operation system: Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT4

  38. converting speed:
  39. -----------------
  40. i think the programm is fast. On a test-PC with a Intel Pentium 200 CPU the coverting progress of an 100 MB
  41. MPP-file takes less then 3 minutes. But please don┤t use "resource killers" (i.e. the Windows Open-GL sreen savers).
  42. To make the converter a little bit faster you can minimize the programm. So it must not update the status
  43. informations on the screen.

  45. knowing problems:
  46. ------------------
  47. sometimes the programm crashes with an german error-message "I/O-Fehler XX". In this case the programm can┤t get
  48. the end of the converted file (but the converting is doin right) or another application uses the MPP-file. The same 
  49. error-message is showing, if you harddisk is full.
