AVIEW is a simple archive-viewer utility for the Norton Commander, it views
ARC, ARJ, LZH, PAK, ZIP and ZOO archives automatically, it shows lots of
info's about the files in the archive, you can also tag files and unpack
them, viewing of archives in archives is also possible, all automatic!
AVIEW doesn't support self-extracting (SFX) archives yet, i'm working
to get that in, also support for banners and password/encrypting/security
will be added in a future release.
AVIEW is made for usage under the Norton Commander, however, the Norton
Commander is NOT needed to use AVIEW, AVIEW can also be used stand-alone.
This utility is here-by placed in Public Domain and can be concidered
freeware, this utility may not be sold, hired, leased or modified, it may
be freely copied as a complete package.
This documentation is a quick-help to setup AVIEW, for more information
you can study the AVIEW.CTL and WHATSNEW.17 files.
Syntax:
-------
Syntax: AVIEW [[<Drive>:][<Path>\]<Filename>
<Drive>: - Drive where archive is on.
<Path>\ - Path where archive is stored.
<Filename> - Archive-file.
Installation:
-------------
Place AVIEW.EXE and AVIEW.CTL in the same directory as NC.EXE and
NCMAIN.EXE, then edit the NC.EXT file (plain ascii-file), and add the
following lines:
ARC: AVIEW !.!
ARJ: AVIEW !.!
LZH: AVIEW !.!
PAK: AVIEW !.!
ZIP: AVIEW !.!
ZOO: AVIEW !.!
Restart the Norton commander, now when you enter a file that has the
extension ARC, ARJ, LZH, PAK, ZIP or ZOO, aview will be started and will
show you the information you want from the archive, press F1 in AVIEW for
on-line help about the keys you can use.
Requirements:
-------------
The following programms are needed (optional):
For extracting, updating and converting:
PKUNPAK.EXE and PKPAK.EXE from PKWare
ARJ.EXE from Robert K. Jung
LHA.EXE from Haruyasu Yoshizaki
PAK.EXE from NoGate Consulting
PKUNZIP.EXE and PKZIP.EXE from PKWare
ZOO.EXE from Rahul Dhesi
For file-viewing/editing:
LIST.COM or LIST.EXE from Vernon D. Buerg.
Q.EXE from SemWare.
The programms needed for file-viewing/editing can be changed in AVIEW.CTL,
LIST and Q are taken as default.
If you use AVIEW only for archive-viewing, then you will only need AVIEW
without any external programms.
AVIEW.CTL:
----------
You can edit the AVIEW.CTL file, its a plain ascii-file, there are seven
commands to configure AVIEW:
NOCOLOR
With this command you force AVIEW in black and white mode, this can
be handy for laptop-users with LCD-Screens.
VIEWER <Viewer>
For defining the viewer to use with the view-function, default is
LIST.
EDITOR <Editor>
For defining the editor to use with the edit-function, default is
Q, NOTE: Use only a editor which doesn't create any backup-files!
EXTRACTPATH <Path>
The path to use for extracting files to, when this path isn't defined,
AVIEW will prompt for a path before extracting any files.
TEMPPATH <Path>
With this command you define the path AVIEW must use as work-directory,
this can be a ram-drive which will speed-up AVIEW dramatically, note that
the temppath is always removed when AVIEW is finished using it, including
all the directory's and files it includes.
SCANNER [<Path>\]<Filename>
With this command you can define the virus-scanner to use for scanning
the file unpacked with the unpack function, when no virus-scanner is
defined, NO scan will be performed.
SCANNERPARM <Parameters>
With this command you can define the parameters to use for the
virus-scanner.
