A RemoteAccess 2.x / Frontend Mailer Utility
Copyright (c) 1995 by Steve Miller
All Rights Reserved.
STORY:
This program is very easy to understand and to use. Every Sysop with
mailer software knows that a BANNER file is displayed to the user before
the BBS software loads from the mailer. I thought that it would be
very handy for some bit of information to be held in this file, so I
wrote this program.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Included in this archive are two files, LAST.ANS and LAST.SET.
LAST.SET holds the unformatted version of what you want the text
file to display. Very easy to understand.
LAST.ANS is an example of how you can make Last generate ANSI colored
last caller screens. There's a trick to this ...
ANSI TRICK: Most people when they use TheDraw to generate and ANSI file will
save the file by entering Animation mode, and hitting spacebar
on the last line (this keeps the drawing on the screen).
For Last you DON'T DO THAT! Create the ANSI file with TheDraw
that you want to display the stats, do NOT enter Animation
mode! Save it as an ANSI file, and then load up DOS Edit and
CTRL-Y (delete) the extra spaces at the end of the file!
Then rename the file to LAST.SET .. that SHOULD work .. if
it doesn't work, that means there are still too many characters
on one particular line.
It looks MUCH nicer when the screen does NOT clear before this
file is displayed, to prevent this.. delete the first FEW
ANSI codes from the LAST.SET file YOU make! The one distributed
in the archive is a good example how to have it set!
When this program is run, it will scan through the LAST.SET file and replace
the following characters codes with the following values:
CODE: VALUE:
-----------------------------------
%n Name
%h Handle
%c City
%b Baud
%t # of Calls
%o Log On Time
%f Log Off Time
-----------------------------------
NOTE: YOU DO _NOT_ HAVE TO INCLUDE _ALL_ OF THE VARIABLES, AND
YOU _CAN_ HAVE AS MANY OF EACH VARIABLE IN THE TEXTFILE AS SO DESIRED!
Finally the output file LAST.TXT will be generated. From there you are
on your own. You can do anything you want with that file. For example
you might want to have something included in a batch file that will copy
the LAST.TXT to the FrontDoor directory as BANNER.TXT.
REQUIREMENTS:
o RemoteAccess 2.x
o The RemoteAccess environmental variable (ie SET RA=C:\RA)
o You MUST be in the same directory as the LAST.SET file to run Last.
