WoodyWare's InterBBS
Phase II
Thank you for trying WoodyWare's InterBBS Phase 2 . Below are the
files you should find in this archive that are part of Phase 2 :
MEDNET2.EXE - Phase 2 InterBBS driver exec
NODE.DAT - Example Node.Dat for your uplinks and downlinks
MAIL.CFG - Phase1 configuration file sample
PHASE2.DOC - Phase 2 Documentation
HOW PHASE2 WORKS:
=================
MEDNET2.EXE will take the files *.009 created by MedLink when
someone enters a Query and send a netmail file attach message to nodes in
your node.dat. MEDNET2.EXE will also check your incoming fidonet files area
for incoming *.009 Queries and *.010 Replies and Process it.
WHAT IS INTERBBS?
=================
The InterBBS protocol driver MEDNET2.EXE allows you to exchange data between
other BBS systems. The main rule to remember is : DON'T MAKE IT HARDER THAN
IT IS. Once you've edited your node.dat and mail.cfg the program will take
care of the rest (more about node.dat and mail.cfg later in the docs). You
don't have to have "hubs" to network your data, you can network with BBSes as
close or as far away as you want. Since there are no centralized hubs that
restrict where and how you pass data, it's basically your responsibility to
establish networks. You can hook up here at 1:3607/20 but since
we live in such a small area not much data would be passed from here. I'd
suggest to form networks netmailing other BBSes with similar interest as yours
or posting echomail in appropriate message areas.
ATTENTION: YOU MUST FIRST CONTACT A BBS TO SEE IF THEY ARE WILLING TO
PARTICIPATE IN A MEDLINK NETWORK. YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR MAIL.CFG AND NODE.DAT
TO REFLECT YOUR SYSTEM AND YOUR UP/DOWNLINKS. I HAVE PEOPLE NOT READING
THE DOCUMENTATION SENDING DATA FILES HERE WITHOUT FIRST WRITING A MESSAGE
HERE AND REQUESTING TO BE ADDED HERE. THESE FILES ARE DELETED. IF YOU
SEND MEDNET REQUESTS TO OTHER SYSTEMS WITHOUT FIRST ASKING/NOTIFYING THEN
YOU'RE NOT IN THEIR NODE.DAT AND NOTHING WILL BE RETURNED OR ON HOLD FOR
YOUR PICKUP.
ABOUT NODE.DAT
----------------
Your node.dat contains your uplink and downlink addresses (NOT YOUR OWN
ADDRESS). It must be in the following format:
ZONE
NET
NODE
POINT
etc.
For example for a BBS participating InterBBS:
1
3607
21
0
1
3607
20
0
REMEMBER THIS IS THE FILE FOR YOUR UP/DOWNLINKS FOR MEDNET
ABOUT MAIL.CFG
--------------
This config file is read by MEDNET2.EXE which is the heart of
the Phase 1 networking part of MEDLINK. It must be in the following format:
YOUR NAME
YOUR ZONE
YOUR NET
YOUR NODE
YOUR POINT
PATH TO YOUR MEDLINK3 DIRECTORY
PATH FOR OUTBOUND .MSG MESSAGES
PATH FOR INCOMING FILES AREA
For Example for a BBS participating in an InterBBS network:
Jerry Woody
1
3607
20
0
c:\SBBS\XTRN\MEDLINK
c:\fd\mail
c:\fd\file
RUNNING MEDNET2.EXE
-------------------
You should run MEDNET2.EXE during your nightly maintenance event.
MEDNET2 will handle all outgoing file attaches and incoming files and add them
to your databases, and send outgoing netmail and get incoming netmail.
MEDNET2.EXE reads the following files : Mail.cfg, Node.dat
!Phase2 InterBBS is included free with the Medlink Package.
