Standard Generic Bleeding Heart Hype
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The future of this product depends heavily upon users supporting it. And I
will not waste alot of your time repeating what you have probably already read
about a BILLION times! Just do the BBS world a favor and register this
interface. We want to write more and make better games. But if no support is
shown for our work then we will drop out of the BIZ and do something that pays
better. (Would you do any different if you had mouths to feed?)
Unpacking the Interface
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Go into the directory where you keep your
communications program.
2. Make a subdirectory called EGAPIT.
Type: md egapit
3. Change into the EGAPIT directory. Do NOT leave this
directory during the installation process.
Type cd egapit
4. Copy all of the files from your interface disks into
this directory. Be sure to specify the proper drive to
copy from.
Type: copy A:*.*
5. PKUNZIP the game files into the EGAPIT directory.
Type: PKUNZIP PIT300-E.zip
PKUNZIP PITGFX3.zip
Qmodem
~~~~~~
6. Copy the file EGAPIT.BAT to your communications
directory.
Type: copy EGAPIT.BAT C:\QMODEM
7. Load up Qmodem.
8. Go to your configuration options.
Type: Alt-N
9. Select the Protocol option.
10. The EGA Pit loads itself like an external protocol.
Create a new protocol called EGAPIT. Have it use the
E hot key to start up and use the U/L and D/L filename
EGAPIT.BAT. This batch file was included with your
interface disks.
11. After you've entered this information, your screen
should look like this:
+------------------------- Setup Menu - version 4.2F --------------------------+
Video Modem Dirs Host Protocols Files Options Exit
+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
0 -
1 -
2 -
3 -
+---------------------------------+
Select character E
Protocol EGAPIT
Upload BAT EGAPIT
Download BAT EGAPIT
Filename Prompt N
+---------------------------------+
Toggles ^Y
+--------------------+
12. Once this protocol is set up, all you need to do to
activate the interface is PgDn when the program asks
you to, select E for EGAPIT and the EGA Pit will
coordinate itself with your host BBS.
13. See the Player Documentation for instructions on
playing The Pit once you're connected.
14. Notice you may have to setup QMODEM to swap out
its memory to disk if you do not have enough memory to
run the program.
+------------------------- Setup Menu - version 4.2F --------------------------+
Video Modem Dirs Host Protocols Files Options Exit
+-----------------------------------------------------+----------------------+-+
+-------------------------+
15. If you do not wish to have QMODEM to do a disk shell each
time you run our game, then you can D/L a utility from our
BBS called SWAP. It will shell out QMODEM from inside the
batchfile. Your batchfiles will have to be adjusted however.
Telix
~~~~~
6. Copy the file EGAPIT.BAT to your communications
directory.
Type: copy EGAPIT.BAT C:\TELIX
7. Load up Telix.
8. Go to your configuration options.
Type: Alt-O
9. Select the Protocol option.
10. The EGA Pit loads itself like an external protocol.
Create a new protocol called EGAPIT. Have it use the
E hot key to start up and use the U/L and D/L filename
EGAPIT.BAT. This batch file was included with your
interface disks.
11. After you've entered this information, your screen
should look like this:
+- File transfer protocols ------------------------------------------------+.

External Key Protocol Upload Download BAT or DL
Protocols Name Filename Filename Script Name

A................. E EGAPIT EGAPIT EGAPIT Batch N
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
12. Once this protocol is set up, all you need to do to
activate the interface is PgDwn when the program asks
you to, select E for EGAPIT and the EGA Pit will
coordinate itself with your host BBS.
13. See the Player Documentation for instructions on
playing The Pit once you're connected.
Procom
~~~~~~
6. Copy the file EGAPIT.BAT to your communications
directory.
Type: copy EGAPIT.BAT C:\PCPLUS
7. Load up Procomm Plus
8. Go to your configuration options.
Type: Alt-S
9. Install EGAPIT.BAT as an external protocol
10. Once this protocol is set up, all you need to do to
activate the interface is PgDn when the program asks
you to, select the EGAPIT protocol and the EGA Pit will
coordinate itself with your host BBS.
11. See the Player Documentation for instructions on
playing The Pit once you're connected.
12. Notice that PROCOMM does not pass parameters unless
you type them in. You may have to edit your batch file
to make the interface run properly.
How: Edit the EGAPIT.BAT file and change the line:
EGATERM %2 %1
to:
EGATERM <com port> <baud rate>
Example: EGATERM 1 2400
Telemate
~~~~~~~~
7. Copy the file EGAPIT.BAT to your communications
directory.
Type: copy EGAPIT.BAT C:\telemate
8. Load up telemate.
9. Escape from the dialing directory.
10. Press Alt O to change options.
11. Select the Protocol option.
12. The EGA Pit loads itself like an external protocol.
You will need to delete one of the other protocols that
you don't use often, and replace it with one called
EGAPIT.
+- External Protocols ---------------------------------------------+
Protocol Upload Download Prompt Auto-Download
Name Key Batch Batch DL Name Sequence

BiModem BI-MODEM BI-MODEM [ ]
Jmodem J JMODEM-U JMODEM-D [X]
*EGAPIT P EGAPIT EGAPIT [ ]
+------------------------------------------------------------------+
13. Once you've created the protocol your screen should
look like the one above, notice the line for EGAPIT
has an asterisk.
14. Once this protocol is set up, all you need to do to
activate the interface is PgDwn when the program asks
you to, select P for EGAPIT and the Ega Pit will
coordinate itself with your host BBS.
15. See the Player Documentation for instructions on
playing The Pit once you're connected.
16. Note: TELEMATE is a memory intensive program. It uses more
memory than any other Communications Package we tested.
Depending on which version of TELEMATE you are using,
you might require a utility available on our BBS to
make your EGA TERM run. The utility is listed as
SWAP.ZIP and the following changes should make it work:
1) UNZIP the SWAP.ZIP into your EGAPIT sub-directory.
2) Get back into your COMMUNICATIONS directory and
edit the EGAPIT.BAT file.
3) Change: EGATERM %2 %1
To: SWAP -f EGATERM %2 %1
These methods seems to work for most people, although there may be exceptions.
