What Is "RA City"
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
"RA City" is a simple little RemoteAccess utility for the
SysOp to change the LOCATION field in the user database to
whatever they want.
Some people will enter CITY or HOME (or whatever else they
want) in the location field of the user database as they log
on. How ridiculous to see "Home" as the user's location.
"RA City" allows you to correct those easily.
It is command-line driven so you can run it during your
nightly events to "clean up" the locations.
The best of all - "RA City" is FREE!
(Please read the registration info at the bottom of this doc)
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Do I Need "RA City"
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If you don't like non-standardization in your location
fields, yes!
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
DISCLAIMER
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The only thing that I guarantee is that it was written by me.
It works great here and on another system that I know of but
it may not work on yours for some reason. I won't be held
responsible from any hard/software damages that you may incur
resulting from running "RA City". (Had to say it... but
I'm sure you won't have any difficulty).
This program has been tested with DOS 5.0, OS2 2.10, DOS 6.2,
4DOS, and Lantastic without any trouble.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Setting Up and Running "RA City"
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
There is no actual set up for Change City but you do need
your RA environment variable set and that's it!
You do NOT have to have "RA City" in any particular
directory, I keep it in its own directory on my system.
(If you do not know how to set your RA environment, refer to
the manual for RemoteAccess)
RA City accepts two parameters. The first parameter is
the string of characters you want to change. The second
parameter is what you want to place in the location field.
Example:
RACITY <param 1> <param 2>
Or in plain english:
RACITY city Corpus_Christi,_TX
The parameters are seperated by a blank space.
If you have more than one word (or need a space) in the
parameter, place an underscore ( _ ) in between each word.
To Find "Los Angeles" and Replace it with "Los Angeles, CA"
you would type:
RACITY Los_Angeles Los_Angeles,_CA
The first parameter is not case sensitive as <City> and
<city> would both be replaced. RACITY will search for any
location with the parameter as part of the string. So, if you
input "an" as the paramter, it will look for "an" in the
location... therefore replacing "indiANa" or "bryAN" with
your second paramter. This makes it easy to replace things,
but be careful not to be too narrow about the search string.
This is a partial search string and it is not inclusive in
what it searches.
The second parameter would be placed in EXACTLY as it is
typed, with the execption of the underscore characters taken
out.
Typing [Corpus_Christi,_TX] would place [Corpus Christi, TX]
in the location field.
Simply typing RACITY would show you the correct syntax to
use.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Important Things To Remember
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1. You must have the RA environment variable set.
2. You must have your message base path assigned in your RA
configuration. The User database (USERS.BBS) resides in that
same directory.
3. The location field is a maximum of 25 characters (that
includes blank spaces).
4. The search is a partial string search so don't
"under qualify" your search.

Support
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
I doubt if you need it, but I'll answer simple questions if
you netmail me at one of the above listed addresses. I will
be limited to routing your replies back, though. I'm not
charging for this program, so I'm not gonna spend any money
supporting it either. Like I said before, I doubt if you'll
need any help.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Registration
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Ah, I said it was free, didn't I. Well, it is. But, I would
like to know that you are using it. Take a moment and send me
netmail (just route it and save a dime) at one of the
addresses listed above.
Who knows, maybe I'll stick you on an electronic mailing list
for other goodies I'll write.
If you run "RA City" and would like to see other little
programs like this get made, and you want to help compensate
me for the time I took to write it (actually the docs took
longer to write than the program), you can send me a donation

Acknowledgements

This program was inspired by two people. They are:
1. Andrew Milner - author of RemoteAccess.
Without his SUPER bbs program, I would have never thought
to write this <grin>. Great job Andrew! Keep up the good
work.
2. My Wife, Carolyn - author of my happiness.
She really doesn't like me sitting and playing on the
computer a lot - but she encourages me with little
ego boosters like "that looks great, Honey"...
Thanks for the support!
