Instructions to use a Turbo Vision application - RAMANCFG
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finding your way around a Turbo Vision application is a little different than
most others. To use the main menu bar directly, you must press F10. Otherwise,
you can call one of the menus by holding down ALT and pressing the appropriate
hotkey. You can move around the menus using the standard cursor keys. However,
once you get into one of the windows such as File Options, that is where the
similarity ends. There are two types of windows used in RAMANCFG. The first
uses Check Boxes, and the second uses Input Lines. Check Boxes are used under
the Options menu. When you first get into one of these windows, you will notice
three distinct fields. The first is the check boxes themselves, and the most
obvious. The second is the green rectangle which says 'Accept' and the third is
the green rectangle which says 'Discard.' To move among these three fields, you
use the TAB key. When you are in the Check Box field, use the cursor keys to
move up and down the list of items. The space bar toggles each item ON
(denoted by a 'X') and OFF. When you are finished, either move to the 'Accept'
field and press Enter, or simply press Enter from the check boxes. Pressing the
ESCape key will discard any changes you made.
The second type of window used are Input Lines, which are found just about
everywhere else. To move around between the various input lines, press the
TAB key. The same principle of saving/discarding the changes that is used with
the check boxes applies here as well. Note that if you want to change several
items that use Input Lines, move to the next one by pressing the TAB key. If
you press Enter, the changes will be accepted and the window will disappear.
If this sounds confusing, don't worry. You will see exactly what I mean once
you run RAMANCFG. I know the commands are a little different than most other
configuration programs, but you will be surprised at how fast you get used to
it. RAMAN is probably not like any program you've ever used before anyway. :-)
