■ What's New:
Release 2: Fixed broken <BBS> token.
Recoded <UNZ> and added ZOO support.
Fixed <DEL> highlight error.
Changed "MS-BOSS" Shell to version 6.00.
■ Overview
Remote Control is possibly the first true "SysOp-friendly" program for
Maximus. It combines pleasing graphics and a powerful interface to become
an excellent SysOp menu, F-Key macro, or whatever. It's great for SysOps
who often call their BBS from remote, or even for quick F-Key access.
■ Setup
Remote Control is SIMPLE to set up. First, you can set it up to work from
a menu by inserting a line like this in your MENUS.CTL file:
Display_File RC2 Priv "Remote Control"
That's all there is to it! If you'd like to have it pop up when you press
an function key, either rename RC2.BBS to F?.BBS (or CF?, AF?, SF?) and it's
ready to go at the touch of a button.
■ Warranty
None.
■ Command Summaries
From the main Remote Control screen (which consists of a likeness of a TV
"zapper", a box containing the description of the command you have chosen, and
a TV screen), you can select any of the following choices by moving the
cursor to it with your arrow keys (NUMLOCK must be on):
BBS - Display a .BBS file *MAX - Maximus Functions
BYE - Disconnect from BBS *MEC - MECCA [tokens]
*CHT - Engage Chat Mode *SHL - Shell to "DOS"
*CMD - Shell to OS *TTT - Play TicTacToe
DEL - Erase a File TYP - View a Text File
DIR - List Files in a Dir UED - Load User Editor
*DNL - Download (send) File UNZ - Decompress Archives
DOS - Run a DOS Command *UPL - Upload (send) File
*KEY - Toggle User Keys YEL - Page User/SysOp
* - Described in greater detail later in this doc
NOTE: Most functions can be aborted at a prompt by typing "Q".
■ About CHT (Chat Mode)
This brings up a small Chat Mode I wrote in MECCA. First the SysOp types
what s/he wants to say, then presses return, and a space for the user's input
appears. Simply type "/Q" to quit or "/BYE" to HangUp.
■ About CMD (Command Prompt)
This will bring up 4OS2 via MAXPIPE, provided you have the appropriate
programs to run it.
■ About DNL (Download)
This is the same as typing "D" from the Files menu - similarly, this sends
a file FROM the bbs TO the user online. Not to be confused with the UPL
(Upload) function.
■ About KEY (User Key Toggle)
From here, just type the key name or number and it will be toggled on or
off. To toggle key "Q", enter it as "QQ" (a single "q" is reserved for
aborting).
■ About MAX (Maximus Functions)
This will show you a list of different Maximus functions, such as ACCEMP
and SILTP, on the TV screen, and let you choose one to execute. It will provide
you with the syntax and you simply enter the parameters.
■ About MEC (MECCA [tokens])
After the prompt appears on the TV screen, enter any combination of MECCA
tokens (such as `[green]Hi there Joe!', for example) and it will be displayed
to you on the screen.
■ About SHL (Shell to "BOSS")
This will bring up a fake but VERY convincing shell-to-DOS. You can enter
normal DOS commands (like DIR, for instance) and even "format" the disk. But
there's one catch - to exit from "DOS" back to RC, you've got to hit "!" (an
exclamation mark) at almost any prompt. Otherwise, you're stuck! (Good joke
to play on naughty users).
■ About TTT (TicTacToe)
Ah, here's the fun part! Remote Control is not all productivity - you can
enjoy a game of good ol' Tic Tac Toe with your user. Type "?" from the game
for help.
■ About UPL (Upload)
This is the same as typing "U" from the Files menu - similarly, this sends
a file TO the bbs FROM the user online. Not to be confused with the DNL
(Download) function.
■ Note from the Author
Thanks for taking the time to view this doc. I worked rather hard on the
program included here, and your support is appreciated. If you have any
problems or suggestions, leave me a note in most FidoNet Maximus-related
echoes. And watch for future releases!!
* You are free to modify this program to your liking, as long as it is only
distributed in its true, unmodified form!
