Silver Xpress Forms System
(c) copyright 1990-1993 Santronics Software
Version 2.0
SXUUCP20.ZIP is a forms application for the Silver Xpress Mail System to
create proper Internet (UUCP) mail.
People who use the Internet mail system understand the problems involved
incorporating Internet with FidoNet. The TO FIELD has to have UUCP and the
first line of the body must have a proper UUCP address. Users who wish to
send mail to Internet via a UUCP gateway must remember to properly create
the mail to successful reach the Internet destination.
This Silver Xpress forms application is an excellent example on how you can
use the Silver Xpress Forms Processing technology to create a Internet
Service for your Silver Xpress OFF-LINE READER users. Silver Xpress is the
only off-line mail system in the world with a forms processors.
Using Forms Processing, the SX Reader can be "programmed" to create special
formatted Xpress messages to send internet messages.
When you install this forms module in your Silver Xpress Mail Door setup,
Silver Xpress reader will have a option in the services menu to "Create
Internet Mail". When this service option is selected by the user, the
user will be prompted for the recipient's UUCP address and message subject
information. Once the user hits F10, he is taken to the editor to create
mail. When the mail is saved, the forms system will create the the proper
Silver Xpress message.
When the reply packet is uploaded, the message will be tossed into your
netmail area. The form must be defined to have the netmail address of your
nearest UUCP host.
INSTALLATION FOR SYSOPS OF SILVER XPRESS
----------------------------------------
1) Copy all the files in the ZIP into your XPRESS directory (where
XPMAIL.EXE is located).
2) Edit INTERNET.FRM file and make sure two things are correct:
AREA NUMBER YOUR NETMAIL AREA # (see note below)
DEST_NETMAIL YOUR UUCP HOST ADDRESS
Optional take a look at the commented out lines describing the attributes
of this netmail message. Do you want it to be crash mail?
NOTE:
If your BBS does not use netmail for UUCP mail, don't worry about. As
long as you define the areanum correctly, the Xpress reader will proper
create the mail for the proper area. In this case, it would be up to
your UUCP processor to properly handle the new mail created by the
reader.
3) Manually edit or create the XFORMS.DAT file in your XPRESS directory and
add the following line:
internet.frm
You can use the XPADM Setup/Xpress Services/Xpress Forms option to edit
this file.
4) Manually edit or create the SERVICES.XP file in your XPRESS directory
and add the following line:
Create an InterNet Email|*FORM INTERNET.FRM
You can use the XPADM Setup/Xpress Services/Off-line Services option to
edit this file.
5) Thats it.
LIMITATIONS
-----------
1) This system is good for creating Internet Email only. Not replying to
one. We are currently updating the reader to allow for reply
capabilities.
2) There is a bug in the reader version 3.00/3.01 where the AREANUM must be
between 1 thru 9. Nothing over 9. Version 3.02 fixes this problem.
NOTES:
------
If you wish to extend or modify the form for this application, the utility
FORMTOOLS.ZIP is available from the Xpress BBS (and on any XDS node).
Included is a full documentation describing the keywords in a forms
definition file.
The Silver Xpress Forms Systems is a powerful tool to create many store and
forward applications such as order entry applications, purchase invoices,
fax applications, MHS integrations etc. No other system in the world comes
close to the power in Silver Xpress.
If you have any questions or comments about this system, please post a
message into the Xpress Sysops Fidonet Echo or netmail 1:135/382.
HISTORY:
--------
SXUCCP10: Initial release of UUCP forms example.
SXUUCP20: Fixes many issues with the older version. I eliminated the need
for the binary outline file (*.WIN or *.BSV) and defined the
screen outline in the form definition file. Simplified this
documentation file. With this version, you can delete the
older SXORDER.PL and SXORDER.WIN file with came with SXUCCP10.ZIP
or with your original Xpress mail door package.
