■ No files may be added to the TIMCOLOR-package or deleted from it.
The only file which may be added to the TIMCOLOR-package is a BBS-advertisement.
■ timEd is copyright by Gerard van Essen
■ This program is freeware! For details see part 7.

4. Contents of the package.
■ The package was originally released as a self-extracting archive named
TIMC_113.EXE. To be sure you have an original archive, you should see
the following after entering TIMC_113.EXE (in case you have a self-
extracting archive) and having seen an informationscreen after which
you can choose to continue unpacking or exit:
Verifying authenticity information ... Ok
After the unpacking the following information should appear:
Archive TIMC_113.EXE
created at 15:mm:ss 22 July 1995
by Dick Pluim
If you see this then you can be pretty sure it's an archive created
by me.
The mm:ss is not known yet as it will always be changed after making an
addition of the archive. :-)
■ This archive should contain the following files:
TIMCOLOR.EXE - TIMCOLOR - executable
TIMCOLOR.DOC - the file you are just reading
TIMED.COL - sample color-configurationfile
FILE_ID.DIZ - short description of TIMCOLOR
■ If you find less files in the archive, please contact me on one of the
previous mentioned nodenumbers.
The only file added to this archive may be a BBS-advertisement.
5. What is TIMCOLOR?
■ TIMCOLOR is a small program to create a color-configuration which you
like to use with the message-editor/reader timEd by Gerard van Essen.
■ I wrote TIMCOLOR because it is a more convenient way setting up a color-
configuration when you actually see how everything looks like, then by
just trying out some colors in the configfile.
■ Not more and not less. ;-)
6. How to use TIMCOLOR.
■ Well put TIMCOLOR.EXE somewhere on your harddisk, but it may be handy to
put it in the same directory where your timEd-files are located.
When firing up TIMCOLOR will look for a file called TIMED.COL in the
current directory. If it can't be found, TIMCOLOR will use the defaults
which have been taken from an original TIMED.CFG.
■ The main menu contains 6 entries:
- M - Here you can define the color-configuration for the message-reader
(how the screen will look like if you are reading a message).
It also contains the color-definitions when starting to enter a
new message or quoting (the entry-field, for which I have
chosen the subjectfield). This was more convenient than putting it
in another submenu.
- E - In this submenu you can define the editor-colors, e.g. how your
screen will look like when you're entering a message (colors of
blocked text, current line etc.).
- A - In this part you can define the color-configuration of the area-
selection screen and the listing colors. I have chosen the area-
selection screen here as example. The last echo-area however
contains the colors that will show up during a listing when
the specific entry concerns a personal message. So in this way it
will never be seen on the screen (personal messages in an area-
overview is ofcourse impossible ;-) ).
- F - In this part you can define the color-configuration to be used
in the Find-menu.
- B - The final color-configuration-part deals with the configuration
of boxes which appear on the screen, f.e. a help-window. The
background of this screen shows the color-configuration as defined
in M.
- L - Load an alternative color-configurationfile.
Handy when you have setup more color-configurationfiles and want to
use another or just edit it. You can ofcourse also use this when
you got a nice configuration from a friend and want to look what
(s)he has got for nice colors.
A directory will show up with all available *.COL-files. You can
switch to alternative directories to look for *.COL-files.
If you press enter the requested file will be loaded. If it
hasn't the format of a color-configurationfile default colors will
be used.
- Q - After you have setup a color-configuration which you like, you can
exit the programming, whether or not saving it.
When saving the name of the current configurationfile in use will
show up. Pressing enter will save this file overwriting an existing
file with the same name (no check is being done on this).
You can also change the name of the file to save.
If you want to write a file to a non-existing directory, TIMCOLOR
will save the given filename in the current directory overwriting
an existing file with the same filename.
■ To change foreground-colors use the up and down-arrow key.
To change background-colors use the left and right-arrow key.
To change a field use the space-key.
To toggle between 'normal' and 'blinking colors' press the 'B'-key
Pressing F1 in all submenu's (except loading and saving) will pop-up
a help-screen with this information.
■ The boxes which pop-up (help-screen, saving and loading) show the
actual colors of the boxes to use in timEd.
The entryfield when entering a filename is also the same as the entry-
field in timEd.
■ To use a created colorconfigurationfile you'll have to put
INCLUDE FILENAME.EXT
in TIMED.CFG where FILENAME.EXT is the name of your TIMED-
configuration.
Maybe I'll use TIMED.CFG in the future for writing the info.
■ Note: the shown message in the program has been written by me and contains
by no means any information of anyone else. Names and nodenumbers
are existing ones.
■ That's all there is... Easy, isn't it?
7. Freeware.
■ This program is freeware, which means that usage is totally free.

8. History
[+] addition
[*] changes
[!] bugfix
■ v1.00 - 31 Jan 94 First initial release
■ v1.01 - 1 Feb 94 [!] Seems that 1.00 could read an alternative color-
config but not used it. In the 1.00beta's it worked,
but probably due to some code-changes I moved a
proecedure to the wrong place. ;-)
[*] TIMCOLOR now uses 25 rows instead of 24.
■ v1.02 - 6 Feb 94 [!] The editscreen didn't show the timEd-editscreen-
status-line at the bottom (not really important or
annoying ;-) ).
Pos: and Line: show randomly numbers.
And try pressing the Ins-key. ;-)
[*] Changed the message-reader-statusline to the
statusline used in timEd-g1.
■ v1.03 - 14 Mar 94 [*] Made the screen-writing lots faster and optimized
the source-code (40% smaller than 1.02!).
[*] Date shown in message on screen won't be the same
anymore all the time. ;-)
[!] For German users (or just generally people) with
a German keyboard (QWRTZ) the 'save changes'-
prompt would cause them to press the Z instead of
the Y. Now it should also work with pressing the Y.
[+] Now a directory-listing will show up when loading
an alternative configuration. So you don't have
to enter a filename anymore.
[*] Built in an extra check when saving files.
■ v1.10 - 16 Mar 94 [!] The extra check when saving files didn't work
quote well... Fixed!
[*] Added support for blinking colors!
[!] When pressing F1 during one of the screens for
editing colors would result in not ever showing
the main screen anymore (this was due to some
SaveScreen-problems). This has been fixed!
■ v1.11 - 9 Jul 94 [!] If you toggled between blinking and non-blinking
for frame-colors the color-number could show a
number higher than 255 (only if you started with
a colorcode smaller than 16). This has been fixed!
[+] Added 'Find menu'-color-configuration. You will
only need this part if you use timEd 1.01 and up
(if they appear... ;-) ).
■ v1.12 - 18 Aug 94 [!] Fixed color of the last line of the Find screen.
This would be in the wrong color...
This line also didn't get updated if you changed
the Find-text-color.
Fixed!
[*] Also updated the find-screen to that in timEd
1.01g1.
■ v1.13 - 22 Jul 95 [+] Added new color_-commands for use with timEd 1.10g1.
9. A final word.
■ Thanx to Gerard van Essen for writing timEd. At the time of writing
the latest official release is version 1.01. Beta-testers can make usage
of a 1.10.beta... And for registered users there is a timEd 1.10.g1
available.
■ Only new releases will appear if Gerard adds some more color-codes to
be configured (hope he doesn't that too often ;-) ).
■ As English is not my native language, there may be some errors in the
text above.
■ There is another TIMCOLOR-program around by Mike Wynne. It has exactly
the same name but looks much different and is about 20 KB larger...
■ Well, that's it. Enjoy this nice program. If you have any suggestions,
comments, etc. you can drop them at my BBS or send it to me via Netmail.
