THE NORMAL CRAP:
This game is distributed on a shareware basis. You are allowed to use this
game for a 2 week 'test and see if you like' period. If you continue to use
this game after that period you are required to send in the registration fee
for use of this game. Otherwise you must not use this game anymore. The
registration fee I am asking is a mere $10.00 dollars for my trouble. You
will not recieve a registured copy of the game because I have already
choose to let you have the game full featured. I do not believe in
"CrippleWare" but do beleive in ShareWare, so please if you use this game
send in the mere 10 dollars to support my efforts. Fill out the registration
form in this archive and return it to me with your 10 dollars.

Ok enough of that legal crap and on to the game.
OVERVIEW:
The basic idea of the game is that you are a drug dealer in the great city
of Detroit. The game resembles the same sort of play features as games like
Trade Wars, Yankee Trader, Galactic Warzone or any other role type door. Except
in DrugLord, your in the city of Detroit. Your goal is to become the biggest
drug dealer in the city so you can take over Police Headquarters and from there
you have enough power to win the next election and throw the old mayor out of
office. Enjoy it all.
CONFIGURING THE DOOR:
The first thing to do is unzip this archive into the directory you plan to
run the door from. You should have the following files:
DRUGEDIT.EXE
DRUGEDIT.HST
DRUGLORD.CTL
DRUGLORD.EXE
DRUGLORD.OVR
DRUGLORD.HST
DRUGMANT.EXE
GREATS.TXT
DRUGHELP.TXT
WELCOME.TXT
WINNERS.TXT
SYSOP.DOC
REGISTER.FRM
CONV21.EXE {If your converting from v2.0 to v2.1}
The door itself is configured through the DRUGLORD.CTL control file. The
File contains the info such as the bbs name, sysop name and some color options.
The file is VERY well commented and explains all the options. Enter the
info for your bbs and name and your all ready to go. Any text editor should
take care of the job for ya. This file MUST be setup for your system for the
door to run properly. If you don't take time to setup this file, don't ask
me what is wrong. It is VERY well commented so just read the comments and
you'll have no problem setting it all up. It is only 7 or 8 lines total to
take care of.
INSTALLING THE GAME:
There are two parts to installing the door. Setting it up to run from your
bbs is the first part. Setting up the maintenance program to run as an event is
the second. I run a TAG BBS so the following instructions and batch files will
be primarily geared towards that system. But I think you can see how to
from these examples how to make small modifications in the batch files to fit
them to run on your system if you use a different software.
Also if you are using a FOSSIL driver don't worry. Druglord has been running
on my system with one for awhile now with no problems. If you have a FOSSIL
you don't have to do a thing. The doordriver routines will sense the FOSSIL
and use it automatically instead of using the internal comm routines.
PART 1 - Installing the game itself
I have found a problem with the door routines themselves that are out of
my control. So if you take these steps I am about to explain you can get around
it. The problem is when using the DORINFO1.DEF file the door interprets ANSI or
ASCII wrong. If you run the game and it won't give you color (run it from
the bbs) then in the DRUGLORD.CTL file there is a line near the bottom that
has COLOR1 on it. It is commented and pointed out to your attention so you
won't miss it. If the board doesn't give color uncomment the line. If it
works fine already then just leave it alone. This should solve your color
problems since it did solve mine. If it doesn't, call my BBS and I will try
to give you all the help I can to get some way around it and get the door
to run properly. But if you do, please have all your info and questions ready
and already make sure you know what your doing and that it is the door and
not you. I really don't have time to teach you how to set up the door but I
do have time to help you if the problems are the door's fault and not yours.
Below is the batch file I shell to from my BBS (TAG) to run the game:
d:
cd\bbs1
copy dorinfo1.def d:\online\drug (change path to yours of course)
cd\online\drug
druglord 1 (1 is for dorinfo1.def in line 3-see below)
d:
cd\bbs1
exit
To run locally: Either straight from your bbs or on the command line:
DRUGLORD /L (Then enter your first and last name (real) as on the bbs)
The 'druglord 1' on line 5 is the 1 that is on the dorinfo*.def filename
on line 3. If the board wrote just dorinfo.def then you would have just
'druglord'. If it wrote dorinfo5.def then on line 5 you would have
'druglord 5'. I think you see the picture. Whatever your bbs writes the
dorinfo file as make sure you follow the number it writes.
I think all of us get a clear idea of how to set up the batch file to work
on your system. After you get the game installed I suggest going to the door
directory and run it locally. The first time it runs it will create the data
files. After these files are created the average boot time is about 5 seconds.
Your now ready for part two.
PART II - Installing the maintenance program
This varies depending on what bbs software you are running. I will include
the setup here for the way I do it with TAG. I think you can figure from that
how to set up your system. Basically you just want to run the maintenance
program as an event with the rest of your daily system maintenance. THIS
PROGRAM NEEDS TO RUN ONCE A DAY! Here is how I set up my maintenance batch
file:
d:
cd\online\drug
drugmant.exe
cd\bbs1
bbs.bat
In TAG, in the event editor, the event setup looks as follows:
1. Event Type :External
2. Description :DrugLord Maintenance
3. Status :Active
4. Execution hard/soft :Hard
5. Error level :Error level = 45
6. Scheduled days :Weekly - Days = MTWTFSS
7. Start Time :04:00
8. Phone Status :Off-hook (2 Minutes)
9. Executed today :Yes
In your TAG bbs.bat then you would have a errorlevel = 45 goto :45 and
then at :45 run drugmant.bat which would be the batch file I included just
above. I think the batch file shows all you need to get done. Just make
sure DRUGMANT.EXE runs once a day.
Welp that is all you need to do.
SYSOP ALT-* KEYS IN DOOR DRIVER
DoorDriver has a few sysop Alt key functions you can use for your needs.
Hitting ALT-H at anytime in Door Driver will bring up a help screen for you
listing all the other Alt key availiable. Here is a listing of the other Alt
commands you can use in door driver
ALT-D - Drop to Dos
ALT-C - Chat with user (ESC and return to exit)
ALT-F - Toggle numeric number filter
ALT-I - System Info
ALT-H - Help menu
UP-ARROW - Add 2 minutes to user time left
DOWN-ARROW - Subtract 2 minutes from user time left
DRUGEDIT.EXE
This is a small little editor I initially wrote for debugging purposes.
I decided to include it for you to customize the game to your will. You will
find when you run it you can edit the users.dat, streets.dat, stores.dat,
houses.dat, and general.dat files. The first 4 data files you can basically
edit just inventory levels only. The general editor is probably of most
interest to you. After you run the game and initialize the data files, goto
this editor and check all the default values. You can set all the prices to
your liking. Also you will notice you can turn on the EMS option. That's
right! If you got expanded memory you can have the game load the overlay before
start into your EMS. This offers fast game play. Turning it on gives you
EMS use. When the game boots it will push the Overlay into EMS. If the
attempt was unsuccessful you will get a 2 second error message and the game
will just run with the overlay on disk like normal. The only reasons the EMS
push will not work is if your EMS driver is not installed or if you do not
have enough EMS memory available for the system. You will need about 130k of
EMS RAM.
Also you can set a filename and path in the general editor to have the game
output the current rankings to one of your bulletins. The default name is
"RANKINGS.TXT".
SUPPORT:
If you find any errors or have problems with the game, call my bbs
immediately and please report them. I will offer any help I can to you
but offer no guarantees. I try to support my product the best I can and

Thanks for your support and I hope you enjoy the game.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
Robert McNaughton - Local programmer here. His bragging around here got
me inspired enough to write this door to show he wasn't
the only guy around here who could write a door. He
is a great programmer and has many of his own doors out.
I know he used to run a bbs but am not sure now. Try
to look him up if you can, he runs a good board. His
handle was THE DIRECTOR the last time I checked.
Scott Baker - For writing DOORDRIVER (DrugLord's comm routine library).
Without his expert knowledge and package this door would
never have come about.
Brian Oakes - My best friend who gave me the whole idea of the theme of this
door. DrugLord was born in his mind.
Dan Gardner & Jesse LaCroix - Their amazing game play, testing, and
suggestions helped this game reach the
level it has rose to.
All the users on my bbs - They are great and their comments and praise have
kept me going on this door in times of need.
