Solitaire
Written by: Jim Stone
Lost your deck of cards? You can
still while away those cold winter
nights with this program and your
faithful companion, C-64.
This version of solitaire plays
very much like the traditional game
of Klondike--with some of the more
popular variations thrown in.
The object of the game remains the
same: free up your aces to start
foundations and then build those
foundations by suit up through the
kings. Layout is also the same.
Play of the cards is similar to
Klondike. A card may be placed on
another card of the next highest rank
of a different color. For example,
black eights may only be played on
red nines.
This game recognizes the variation
that permits only a portion of a
build to be moved. For instance, if
you had a build that consisted of the
nine of diamonds, eight of spades,
seven of hearts, and six of clubs,
you could move the seven of hearts
onto the available eight of clubs.
Each time you uncover a card turned
face down, that card is turned face
up and is available for play. Spaces
in the columns may be filled only by
kings.
Play is controlled from the command
line near the bottom of the screen.
To see the next card in the pack,
press "C".
To play a card, press either "D" to
indicate you want the top card of the
pack or press the row number (1-7) in
which the card you want to play is
located.
If there is only one card face up
in the row you indicate, you next
indicate where you want the card
moved to--Aces foundation or another
row.
If there is more than one card face
up in the row you indicate, you must
specify which card you want moved,
then specify where to move it. All
cards built on the card you specify
will move with it.
Press "Q" to quit when a game is
blocked. When you press "Q", all
cards still turned face down will be
turned face up so you can see where
the game got blocked.
