" THE DIARY OF ABBOT COSTELLO
"
The diary covers October 25th through
"the 30th, the night of the murder.
"
"OCTOBER 25: The St Swithin's Day
Ceremony was ruined today when the
altar mysteriously exploded. Under
"the rubble was discovered a small,
previously unknown catacomb.
&
"OCTOBER 26: Found a disgusting scroll
in the Room of the Ram. Must speak
to Father Noster about this.
"
"OCTOBER 27: Spied Sister Debbie giving
more than proper succor to a grieving
villager. I made her confess her
sins and gave her a hefty penance.
&
OCTOBER 28 - Overheard Mother Puleeze
talking to the heathen Doctor Dee.
She said something about services
rendered. Must follow this up.
"
OCTOBER 29 - My official seal seems to
be missing. Cardinal Musial arrived
from Rome and was quite interested
in seeing the Papal Bull of 303 AD
which was found in the new catacomb.
&
OCTOBER 30 - Tonight I'm hearing the
"confessions of Father Noster, Mother
"Puleeze, Novice Scotia, Sister Debbie
and Cardinal Musial. The Cardinal
"will hear mine, then I'll show him
the Papal Bull of 303 AD.
*
It sounds like your typical Abbey. The diary provides the chronology
"of what led up to Costello's untimely demise, and mentions where
everybody is supposed to have been on the night of the murder.
"Apparently, anyone could have killed the Abbot.
"
"The Papal Bull of 303 AD also seems to be important, although there
"is no clue as to what the Bull contains. Calhoon always wondered,
"which came first, the word that means <statement from the Pope> or
the word that means <male bovine>? Perhaps they were coined at the
same time?
