Your bloodhound nose identifies the
"spot as arsenic di-cyanide, a powerful
poison whose symptoms resemble those of
"the plague. Curiously, if arsenic
"di-cyanide is inhaled, death is quick.
"If it is ingested, paralysis sets in
"immediately, but death doesn't occur
for a day or so.

What a lovely poison! Calhoon chose the name because it sounded
"so deadly, and gave the poison its attributes because they were needed
"for the plot.
"
"All major mystery writers, such as Agatha Christie, are meticulous in
their research and use only real poisons in their stories. They would
receive numerous letters from nit-picking readers if even one little
"factoid is out of place. Calhoon, on the other hand, simply made up
his poison (and its curious and incredibly handy properties) and
"challenged readers to object. As of this writing, none has cared to.
"The significance of this, if any, is left for you to determine.
