  23. 1.  ABOUT STARFISH INTERNET UTILITIES LITE
  24. ==========================================
  25. Welcome to Starfish Internet Utilities Lite. With this versatile
  26. collection of utilities, you can connect quickly to your favorite
  27. Internet sites, unzip compressed files, track your online
  28. communications, and more.
  29.  
  30. HereÆs what you get in Starfish Internet Utilities Lite:
  31. -- QuickMarks (Lite) travels the Internet for you, performing
  32. your commands and getting information. It helps you organize
  33. links to your favorite sites, and lets you quickly and 
  34. easily save valuable data from the World Wide Web.
  35. -- You can use the unique QuickMark It! button to create
  36. Internet QuickMark buttons with a single click. No more 
  37. worry about bookmarking your favorite sites, or taking the 
  38. time to follow your browserÆs procedures for creating a 
  39. shortcut.
  40. -- InternetMeter (Lite) helps you to keep track of your
  41. communications using applications such as Netscape Navigator 
  42. and Microsoft Internet Explorer. It monitors the status of 
  43. your call, the time you spend online, and your modem data. In
  44. addition, if a call fails, InternetMeter will show the 
  45. reason, such as "Line busy."
  46. -- QuickZip compresses and extracts files easily and efficiently.
  47. Special features include the ability to quickly create
  48. self-extracting files (.exe) and drag-and-drop functionality.

  50. HereÆs what you can get by upgrading to the full version of 
  51. Starfish Internet Utilities:
  52. -- QuickMarks provides a unique Notification feature, which 
  53. instantly lets you know which of your favorite sites have 
  54. changed! You can then launch those sites with a single mouse 
  55. click from the WhatÆs New window!
  56. -- InternetMeter includes an expanded view of your connection
  57. and data flow rate. In addition, you can customize the 
  58. InternetMeter to match your own communication style and 
  59. even monitor your free time with online service providers!
  60. -- QuickZip can be added and removed, along with several 
  61. other plug-ins, allowing you to customize Internet Utilities 
  62. to meet your personal needs.
  63. -- InternetClock features the Internet Time Synchronizer, 
  64. which precisely synchronizes your computerÆs system clock 
  65. with Internet time servers, ensuring that your system time 
  66. is accurate and reliable. You can also use InternetClock to 
  67. schedule alarms, reminders, and tasks, and display up to 
  68. four clocks, each showing the time in a different time zone. 
  69. Upgrade to get all those features!
  70. -- The Virtual Screens plug-in is like connecting your computer to 
  71. several side-by-side monitors. You can open programs on the 
  72. Virtual Screens, and then switch back and forth among them 
  73. to work with the different programs. In addition, you can 
  74. launch multiple instances of your browser. Then you can view 
  75. one site while the browser in another Virtual Screen is 
  76. connecting to another site.
  77. -- The Resources plug-in contains information about your memory, disk 
  78. drive space, Windows system resources, and your system 
  79. environment. Use the Resources utility to examine resource 
  80. usage and to set alarm levels for low resources.
  81. -- Printer Manager lists all the currently installed 
  82. printers, fax drivers, plotters, and other output devices. 
  83. You can print or fax a file by dragging it to the desired 
  84. printer icon, change the default printer, and more.
  85. -- WinTools offers single-click access to the most 
  86. frequently used Windows 95 tools, such as Find and the 
  87. Explorer. You can select how many and which tools you 
  88. display on the Control Panel, such as Explorer, representing
  89. the Windows Explorer tool; Find, representing the Windows 
  90. Find tool; and Internet Browser, representing your default 
  91. Internet browser.

  113. 2. INSTALLATION
  114. ===============
  115. Install Starfish Internet Utilities Lite in a separate 
  116. directory; do not attempt to install it over another program.
  117.

  119. 3. STARTING STARFISH INTERNET UTILITIES LITE
  120. ============================================
  121. Click Starfish Internet Utilities in the Windows 95 Start 
  122. Menu.
  123.  
  124. The first time you run Starfish Internet Utilities Lite, 
  125. your system is examined and the following features are 
  126. automatically set up:
  127. --  The AppOrganizer scans your hard disk for common applications 
  128. and creates QuickMarks groups and QuickMarks buttons for them, 
  129. such as a Utilities group.
  130. --  Starfish Internet Utilities Lite creates QuickMarks buttons 
  131. representing Internet sites, grouped into convenient categories 
  132. such as Search.

  136. 4.  LIMITATIONS
  137. ========================
  138. Limitations include:
  139.  
  140.    - When you view the Modem Setup dialog for the InternetMeter, you 
  141.      get the modem properties for the first modem installed. You 
  142.      cannot change to other modems.  As a workaround, use the Windows
  143.      Control Panel.
  144.    - If you have large Bookmarks and/or Favorites groups that
  145.      are not organized in folders, you may experience Resources
  146.      problems. As a workaround, organize your Bookmarks and/or
  147.      Favorites in folders, creating a hierarchical directory
  148.      structure.
  149.    - If you uninstall your default browser, your QuickMarks
  150.      Internet buttons may not launch correctly. As a workaround,
  151.      click Customize, double-click QuickMarks, and select
  152.      Settings. Click the Advanced button, and select a 
  153.      browser for launching your QuickMarks on the Browser
  154.      page.
  155.      
  156. Note: Online and Internet service providers vary in their policies
  157. concerning their billing practices, such as in their methods for
  158. rounding up the hours spent or billing in minimum time increments.
  159. They also may change their policies. InternetMeter does not account
  160. for all such variables. Although InternetMeter will reflect the
  161. actual time spent online, that time may not reflect your final bill
  162. from your service provider.

  165. 5.  RUNNING STARFISH INTERNET UTILITIES LITE UNDER WINDOWS NT
  166. =============================================================
  167. Starfish Internet Utilities Lite has been tested with Windows
  168. NT 4.0, and the information provided in the documentation
  169. applies only to NT 4.0. It has not been tested with 
  170. older versions of NT.

  174. 6.  REMOVING STARFISH INTERNET UTILITIES LITE
  175. =============================================
  176. To remove Starfish Internet Utilities Lite:
  177.  
  178. 1.  Close Starfish Internet Utilities Lite and the InternetMeter             
  179.     background monitoring component. (Close the component by
  180.     right-clicking the InternetMeter system tray icon and clicking
  181.     Close InternetMeter on the shortcut menu.)
  182. 2.  Ope
