Bitmaps Screen Saver for Windows
Installation Instructions:
1. This programs requires you to have windows AND for Windows to be running
in a SUPER VGA Mode of 256 Colors! If you do not know if your windows
is running in this mode Run Windows Setup Program and Check your Video
Mode. If you are not running at 256 Colors then delete this program
you downloaded as it probably is not worth the trouble for you to change
to the less reliable and slower S-VGA Mode just to run this Screen Saver!
2. This program is made up of 3 Parts (BMPSav1.EXE, BMPSav2.EXE and
BMPSav3.EXE. Have all the BMPSAVx files you downloaded in a Temporary
directory (NOT in your WINDOWS Directory). You need Only the 1st of
the 3 Parts to use this program IF! you already have the Visual Basic
Runtime Version 3 DLL in your Windows or Windows System Directory. If you
do not have this VBRun300.DLL file their then you do need the 2nd Part
BMPSav2.ZIP or EXE available on Compuserve and other BBS's like the one
you downloaded the 1st Part from. If you do not have any 256 color
bitmaps/pictures then you will need part 3 BMPSav3 as it contains 6 or
more quality bitmaps to get you started. You need only unarchive the
1st Part BMPSAV1 by Entering the command BMPSAV1 then Enter The
Command INSTALL (Enter the command Install at the DOS Prompt within
the same Directory you unarchived the file into. You should NOT Execute
the INSTALL BAT file from a DOS Shell under Windows, it probably will
work/install fine from a DOS Shell, BUT in some cases it will not).
* Thus just Enter the Commands BMPSAV1 and Then the command Install
3. If the Install Completed Sucessfully without any error messages you are
then ready to set it up to run and can delete any left over files in
the temporary directory you put the downloaded files in. Keep the
Archived Files you downloaded if you wish to give them to a friend.
4. To complete the installation you need to tell Windows to use this
Screen Saver. Restart Windows and Start the Control panel Program.
Within Control Panel Run the Desktop Utility. Within Desktop Set the
Screen Saver Section to Bitmaps by DCI and set the Delay Interval
as you desire. You can run this program separately (without waiting
for the delay time to pass by setting up a separate application in
a program manager group of your choice to execute the program
Bitmaps.EXE located in your windows directory.
NOTES:
1. When the Screen Saver is running Remember the Special Key Stroke
combination of SHIFT H for Help with the other Special Keyboard
commands and to view the complete documentation.
2. The 1st Time you run this screen saver it will be looking for Bitmaps
that start with a 1 as their file name in you windows directory. If
you do not have any such Bitmaps their you will just get an error
message! Part 3 of this 3 part Package contains about 7 Quality
256 Color Bitmaps that start with a 1. If you have no such files
you can run this programs Setup Routine (which edits the ASCII
bitmaps.ini file in your windows directory) by executing Setup in
Control Panels Desktop Screen Saver Section or at any time this
saver is running by hitting SHIFT S, Also Setup gets run
automatically if the program encounters most errors. Within
Setup can specify Bitmaps Patterns other than 1*.BMP (BMPs that
start with a 1) as well as bitmaps locations other than your windows
directory. We set it up by default to show 1*.BMP files so that
it will skip the BMPs that come with windows as they are not 256
color bitmaps and do not fill the screen.
3. If you later download part 2 or 3 of the total package you can install
them separately by executing their Install Routines at the DOS Prompt.
Their Install command is Install2 for Part 2 and Install3 for Part 3
(BMPSAV3). You do not have to install them Separately IF you Unarchived
them at the same time and ran the primary Install (called just INSTALL)
included in Part 1 as it will look for the other 2 and install them at
the same time if they were there.
Good Luck. And remember you can share the Shareware version of this program
with anybody you like.
The 1st and Main Part of this Program is made up of the following 5 files
