Font Info
for
Adobe Type Manager Fonts
by
Tej K. Dhawan
Introduction
This program was created out of a need ot catalog all the Adobe
Fonts I had on my hard disk and archives. With over 460 ATM
fonts around me, it was hard to figure out which was which just
by the file name so I wrote this short information utility.
This program has no bells and whistles. It is a straight DOS
program that checks each Adobe Type Manager file in the
directory and creates a list of filenames followed by the font
the file defines along with the version number.
Usage
Copy this program to the directory that contains your ATM fonts
with the extension PFB. This is the main directory that
contains files that define all the ATM fonts installed.
To run the program then you have one of two options:
a) At the C prompt, type FI and watch all the filenames
scroll by. This is the best way to look for font files
at a cursary glance.
b) Type FI > fontlist.txt to capture the filenames and font
descriptions into a file called fontlist.txt. This is a
good method to keep a text file list of the fonts you
have.
Why would you use this program?
If you are like me you have probably built up a large collection
of Adobe Type Manager fonts that you now need to catalog. This
program provides a fast, simple and easy way to catalog all the
fonts in your collection.
If you have most of your fonts still in ZIP files, you might
want to unzip those files to a temporary directory and catalog
them by filename. That way, you wouldn't need to keep all the
fonts unzipped/installed and you can install them according to
need.
Describing the output
Most Adobe Type Manager fonts tell about themselves by the name
itself...for example the output from this program may be:
AGATE.PFB Agate-Normal 001.00
^ ^ ^ ^
filename font style version
The filename looked at by this program is the *.PFB
file...therefore the filename.
The font name is the family name of the font....for example, all
Courier fonts will have Courier listed under the font.
The style refers to the pre-defined style defined in the font
file....some possibilities may be: BOLD, ITALIC and NORMAL
The version number is simply that...the version.
And finally the legal stuff....
This program is shareware and is an beta evaluation copy. To
receive the complete version awaiting completion, please
register the software.
This program is a short version of the final version in
development and is meant for evaluation only. If you find it
useful and would like the full blown version (due 10/31/1991),
you might want to register this program with me. The
registration will provide you with:
1. The full blown version with comprehensive font
information such as weight, italic angles, font
family etc. The full version will also provide you with
information on the way each font is painted (Strokes,
Outlines, Filled etc). This is only a brief list.
2. A set of 5 type faces on disk. These faces will be
the five of my favorites unless you specify some that
you might want and I will try and get them for you.
Please keep in mind that the only typefaces I can
provide in this way are those in the public domain
only.
I am asking for $10 from you for use of this program and to
cover the cost of the upgrade that will me automatically mailed
to you after registration. You will not have to pay for this
upgrade.
How to upgrade...
To register your version with me, all you need to send me is a
personal check for $10 or a money order, your name and address
and I will take care of the rest. If you include any
suggestions or complaints, I will respond to them upon reciept
and try and include your suggestions in the future versions.
