Lander V2.1 (demo version)
--------------------------
Installation:
Copy the files LANDER.OPA and LEVELS.DAT to the directory APP on any
SSD (internal, A or B).
Psion Series 3
--------------
If you want improved sound, and you do not already have it installed,
copy the file SNDFRC.LDD to the root of your internal drive, M:
This last file is optional.
Psion Series 3a
---------------
DO NOT install the sndfrc.ldd file as this will cause the game to
crash on the Series 3a.
---------------
When first run, the program will create a (small) file called Lander.hst
in the OPD directory on you internal drive. This contains the high scores
and current options.
----------------------------------------
The Story
---------
You have inherited a cargo transport ship and have set out to earn
a living by ferrying different cargo's around the local area of the
galaxy for contract. This sometimes dangerous job will take you to
many different planets upon which you must skillfully land your ship
without crashing.
Some planets have very difficult conditions, thick and thin atmospheres,
strong gravities, buffeting winds, which make your job more difficult.
Occasionally you will be presented with the option to ferry cargo to
lucrative, but very dangerous war zones. The pay offs are high, but so
are the risks!
Pirates will sometimes spring on you, stealing your cargo, forcing you
to waste valuable fuel and money.
Good luck, you'll need it!
The Game
--------
MENUS and HELP are available throughout the game.
To start, define your favoured control keys and select the start option.
Sound may be turned on and off at any time during the game, and also,
if you should find your initial choice of keys not to your liking,
these may also be changed in the game.
The control keys and sound status will be saved and loaded up again each
time the program is re-run.
Landing
-------
At the start, you will be placed, hovering above the surface of planet
Earth. Gravity will initially pull you down towards the Landing pad.
When it comes into view (it is initially off screen at the bottom)
thrust to counteract gravity and try and make a slow controlled landing
roughly in the middle of the pad.
Should you touch the landscape at any time, an emergency shield will
activate and destroy some of the surrounding land before you are destroyed
yourself. This shield has 5 units charges, but it may be recharged (at
significant cost!) whenever you land.
Should your shield accidentally destroy the landing pad, do not worry!
The pad is merely a marker for a capture force field that holds your
ship in place for unloading. The field will still be there even if
the pad is not!
Contracts
---------
After you have landed, you will be paid for any cargo you were carrying,
and then offered a choice of three contracts for cargo. View them using
the left and right arrow keys ( <- -> ) and press ENTER to choose one.
Pay attention to the payment offered, the mass you are taking (this will
affect you landing/take-off), and the cost to hyperspace to the
destination.
You will then have to choose how much landing/take-off fuel to buy,
and optionally, whether to repair your shield.
Finally, take-off (just fly up to the top of the area), and you will
automatically hyperspace to your destination, ready to land there.
The Aim of the Game
-------------------
Why, to become fabulously rich and wealthy, and get your name to the
top of the High Score Table of course!
--------------------------------------
How to get the full game
------------------------
This is a DEMO version of the full game. It contains only 12 (4 easy,
4 medium, and 4 hard) different landing levels, and the game stops
after you have landed on 3 planets, displaying a notice of how to
obtain the full game.
The full game contains 60 different landing levels (20 each of easy,
medium and hard) and only finishes when you come to a sticky ending
on the rocks of some planet.
If you enjoy this demo, and think you would like the full game,
send 5 UK POUNDS STERLING (Cash - send registered please,
or British cheque) to me:
Andrew Baldwin,
2 Caernarvon Walk,
Swindon, SN3 1HS
England
enclosing details of you name, address, and internet email address
(if you have one).
If you have an internet email address, I will email you the UUENCODED
binary of the full game.
If you do not have access to email, and you live in the UK,
then send along with the money, a 720k Double Density 3 1/2 inch PC
floppy disk, (or an Amiga 3 1/2 inch floppy - state this,
PC will be assumed) and a Stamped Self Addressed Envelope
(large enough to hold the disk!), and I will put the files (along
with a few other files) on this disk and send it back to you.
If you do not live in the UK, send instead just your details
and 10 UK POUNDS STERLING (Cash - you shold be able to get this
from a bank) - that is 5 pounds for the game and 5 pounds for
disk, postage and packing. I will then send you a PC disk
(suitably packed) containing the files.
Many hours of work, and around 2700 lines of source code went into
the development of this game, and I do not feel that 5 pounds is an
unreasonable amount to ask for it.
But of course, you don't have to buy it! :)

intelligence, or damage to anything resulting in the use of this
program. Use it at your own risk!
I can only say that I have used it for many hours on my own machine
with no ill effects except for a general lowering in the local
stress levels.....
