ROGER TAYLOR & YOSHOKI FOREIGN SAND
-----------------------------------
UK RELEASED DATE: 19/9/1994
FORMATS: 7" Vinyl/Audio Cassette/CD
The CD versions of most single releases are now becoming the
most collectable because of the extra tracks that can be
included. Like Roger's previous release on CD recently, it
was issued originally at a special price of £1.99, much
lower that the standard £3.50.
There are 2 versions of the title track, a single version
and the album version. Also included is 'You Had To Be
There', though it doesn't say if this is a special version,
so I assume it's the album version. The most collectable
track to be included here is a recording of the Cross song
'Final Destination' re-recorded here by Roger and Yoshoki.
This track is not on the UK release of 'Happiness?', but is
on the Japanese release as a bonus track. I hope not too
many of you had already bought the import just for this
track now it is available this way.
So, what is the new version of 'Final Destination' like I
hear you ask. Well it begins in an unfamiliar way, not
sounding at all like the original, but then slowly the
melody is recognisible, and most lyrics too, though it is
quite a different version and not as emotional or powerful
as the original in my opinion. One interesting fact
concerning the guest musicians on the new version, and
'Foreign Sand' is Phil Chen the bass guitarist who was last
seen, (on a Queen-related recording) on Brian's 'Starfleet
Project' back in the early eighties. Other musicians
involved are Jim Cregan (guitar) and Dick Marx (strings).
Josh Macrae is credited as co-producer and engineer for
'You Had To Be There'.

POPSTARS
--------
Something which may slip through the net if I don't mention
it, is Jeremy Reed's and Mick Rock's book called 'PopStars'.
Through poetry and photgraphy many pop icons of recent years
are included. Freddie is one of them, along with Bowie,
Jagger etc. The Price is £8.95 direct from:

TOTP
----
The Top Of The Pops version of 'Killer Queen' was shown
again on Sound Of The 70's recently, so I hope you all have
your video recorders waiting as this video is not
commercially avaiable yet.

MAY-TAINENCE
------------
May-Tainence is an American fanzine dedicated to Brian.
It's first issue was Summer of 1994 you and can become a
member by contacting the address below.
It's a ten page magazine roughly A4 and printed black and
white on glossy paper. It has lots of b/w photos by fans and
covers Brian's US tour. The front page reproduces a letter
(from June 94) from Brian to all the members, so he seems to
approve of it. (Though Jacky Gunn/Smith at the fan club in
London has refused to advertise it in the official mag upon
the request of Jim Beach, as is for US fans only for some
reason).
May-Tainence is quite light-weight in contents, but it is
entertaining and produced by genuine fans. It even has a
comic strip. Very American.
Prices are:
America - $15 (check, money order etc).
Elsewhere - $20
(US currency ONLY. Buy it from your local bank).

THE ARETHA CAMPAIGN
-------------------
Would you like to hear Areatha Franklin (Freddie's favourite
singer) sing one of Freddies's songs?
Anne Christie would and she's responsible for the above
campaign.
"I'd love Aretha to sing 'Somebody To Love'"
said Freddie in a 1989 BBC interview.
If enough fans write to Ms Franklin at either of the
addresses below she may just well fill one of Freddie's
wishes - so, do it for Freddie.

When you write explain why you are writing. Freddie was a
genuine fan of hers so tell her so. If you bought her albums
because of Freddie's comments about her tell her so. He
mentioned her in numerous interviews and cited her album
'Amazing Grace' as one of his inspirations. If you have any
sheet music of Queen's or Freddie's send it to her - she
will be more likely to respond if the score is there in
front of her. Tell her how varied Queen's catalogue is and
how she could find many songs, either ballads or rockers to
suit her. Suggest certain songs and include why she should
choose these above others. Do it for Freddie.
Freddie chose to include her songs 'You've Got A Friend' and
'Take My Hand Precious Lord' to be palyed at his funeral
service. This was the only part of the srevice in English.
Again, do it for Freddie.
There are enough Queen fans to make this happen, if only
they do something to impress her, so put pen to paper and
give the campaign your support - do it for Freddie!
If you'd like to contact Anne, (the organiser) she's at the
address below:

I know this info was in a previous issue, but it is such a
good idea I thought I'd mention it again. Especially as the
response first time around wasn't very good at all! If you
thought about, but didn't ge around to doing it previously,
please do something this time. Thank You.
