MAGAZINES
==========================================================================
Q magazine
--------------
September 1994
For such a once respected monthly as this magazine is, I'd
at least expect them to get the facts right. They first
claim that Roger's single 'Nazis 1994' was a filthy fascist
number, then get the lyrical contents of 'Foreign Sand' and
'Dear Mr Murdoch' mixed up.
At least later in this issue we're are informed of a new
rarity. A collectable promo called the 'Queen Digital Master
Sampler'. It's a 56 minute compilation CD which comprise 14
tracks from their albums up to 'The Works'.
The 'Sampler' is packed in a maroon cover with the crest on
both the front and back, with all 19 album covers on the
inside. However this is not a greatest hits compilation as
it contains non-hits, b-sides and other album tracks. All
supplies were distributed to radio stations and major retail
outlets around the world (excluding the USA as they are
dealt with by Hollywood Records, and the above is an EMI
operation). So, if and when they appear on the collectors
market expect to pay between £30 and £50.

October 1994
This issue includes an advertisement about the 'Tower
Records' (Piccadilly, London) - World AIDS Day on December
1st this year.
Throughout the day at Tower, will be live performances by
bands and celebrities. Ten percent of the days counter sales
will be donated to the Terrence Higgins Trust.
If you can't be there, then tune in to 'Radio 1' who will be
giving regular updates throughout the day.
Also in this issue is a review of the Jim Hutton book -
'Mercury & Me'. From the details in the review the book's
contents sometimes seem trivial yet honest at the same time.
Upon relfection the contents are both trivial and honest,
but very readable none-the-less.

October 1994
This well-respected musicians monthly has Brian on it's
cover and features 7 pages of stuff about Brian, plus the
winner of the Guild guitar offered as a prize, and won by
Vanessa Lopez.
The article includes photographs of Brian and Vanessa and
Brian signing the prize.
Also included in this issue is a review of a rock
compilation know as, wait for it...'The Best Rock Album in
the World ...Ever'. Of course in features and opens with the
classic 'We Will Rock You'.
The Book 'Queen & I' The Brian May Story (reviewed elswhere
in this issue) is given some space with the main feature.
There is also a competition to win one of three copies of
the book. The question?
"Which number 1 'Comic Relief' record did Brian produce?"
(How many have there been? - Ed).
Finally, right at the back in the classified section Brian
can be seen condoing and being quoted saying that he uses
'Maxima' gold plated strings.
Contact Maxima on 0373 864721 (UK) if you want to try these
srtings too!

November 1994
An article about the recent auction at Bonhams in London.
It's stated here in this magazine that the real feenzy
started with the Freddie Mercury lot.
The most interesting is a postcard with a letter of
authentication dating it "1969 on Queen's US tour" (?) Which
is really strange as the contents detail a shopping spree by
Freddie in Japan in 1979. It sold for £750.
A letter from Freddie to a friend fetched £950.

October 1994
Here we find a review of the Laura Jackson book about Brian,
'Queen & I'. It describes Brian as the quiet one, though not
nearly as quiet as John 'the Invisible Man' Deacon.
Although the review also mentions that Brian gave her
permission originally to do research for the book it fails
to mention that it is published without it. (Though
as Laura told me recently as she is not claiming is
is "authorised" she doesn't need Brian's permission to
publish).
Laura's book is also reviewed in the October issue of 'Q'
magazine, and gives a few tempting snippets of it's contents
Brian's burning boots, is just one!
But did you Brian (with Smile) supported Jimi Hendrix, Pink
Floyd and Yes.
