  4. As always, for those of you not in the fan club, here's a
  5. round up of the contents in the current issue, (Autumn 94).

  7. The Fan Club 'Tour Of London' trips ended for this year on
  8. 7th October, but will comence again sometime in April '95 as
  9. they have proven to be very popular. Contact the fan club if
  10. you're interested and in London sometime.

  17. Roger did a personal appearance at the Oxford Street
  18. HMV, (a large UK record chain) in London on September 6th.

  22. MAGIC

  24. Magic, (the cover band) are doing a charity gig at London's
  25. Hammersmith Apollo on 30th November '94 as part of the
  26. National Freddie Mercury Collection. The show is being
  27. presented by the Fan Club and the Mercury Pheonix Trust.
  28. All profits to the Trust.
  29. Tickets £10.50/£12.50 available from the box office.

  33. BRIAN
  34. -----
  35. Brian has been working on both new solo material and the
  36. final Queen album.
  37. Many thousands of fans entered the competition in the
  38. 'Guitarist Magazine' to win a Guild BHM guitar - the winner
  39. is Vanesa Lopez, (who doesn't yet play!)
  40. The valuable instrument was presented to Vanesa at the Fan
  41. Club office by Brian himself. Vanesa later admited she only
  42. entered to meet Brian!

  44. Brian was invited to play on the new Jennifer Rush album, as
  45. she was recording a version of 'Who Wants To Live Forever'.
  46. He also ended up dueting with Jennifer, thought it's not yet
  47. certain if this track will end up on the album.

  51. Woodstock 2
  52. -----------
  53. Brain was due to play at the Woodstock Revival Festival this
  54. summer in New York with Paul Roger's band, but upon arrival
  55. was so ill he returned home.

  59. Queen & I
  60. ---------
  61. Many of you may already know about the book by Laura
  62. Jackson, Queen and I, (subtitled 'The Brian May Story').
  63. Well, a few years ago she contacted Brian and asked if she
  64. could research a book about his life. Brian agreed in
  65. principal, so she went ahead.
  66. Brian was at first keen to co-operate, but had little time
  67. to devote to it personally and suggested Laura should wait a
  68. while. However she did not wait and now the book has been
  69. published, albiet without Brian's permission. (See review
  70. later in this issue of QFN).

  74. The Guitar (A Guide For Students & Teachers).
  75. ---------------------------------------------
  76. This is a book Brian WASs involved in, which was originally
  77. published in 1988 (I think - Ed) by Oxford University Press.
  78. Michael Stimpson complied an edited it while Brian
  79. contributed a chapter on rock guitar.
  80. There is now a new series of books by the same author
  81. entitled 'Guitar Styles' - Brian has co-written the rock
  82. styles book which includes six pieces especially written by
  83. Brian, and a version of 'Who Wants To Live Forever'.
  84. The music itself is written in tablature and standard staff
  85. notation. The books are aimed at both the beginner and
  86. experienced player, with notes on technique and how to play.
  87. The book costs £6.95 and should be available in all good
  88. shops that sell musical instruments. Your high street
  89. book-sellers should be able to order it for you.

  95. Rise Of The Robots

  97. The new game 'Rise Of The Robots' which includes some Brian
  98. May music (The Dark and Resurrection) is to be released on a
  99. record number of formats.

  118. Roger's Letter
  119. -------------
  120. In his hand-written letter Roger hopes everyone liked
  121. 'Happiness?', admitting it is a quite personal collection of
  122. songs. He also says here's looking forwards to the UK tour
  123. later this year,(94) and he Brian and John are still working
  124. on the final album which he suggests could keep them busy
  125. well into 1995!
  126. Finally his hovercraft is full of eels and no doubt his
  127. Hungarian isn't too good either! (A 'Monty Python' reference
  128. for all you non-believers out there).

  132. Re-issues
  133. ---------
  134. There is a possiblity that Roger's two previous albums will
  135. soon be re-issued soon, and something Jacky at the fan club
  136. has been pestering EMI for for a few years.
  137. Co-incidentally, some of you may remember reading in QFN 6/7
  138. that Alexander Levy at EMI France was doing research into
  139. some of EMI's back-catalogue and asked QFN and it's readers
  140. for assitance with details of album / singles release
  141. dates / catalogue numbers, and what if any bonus tracks
  142. could fans suggest to include on Roger and Brian solo work,
  143. (Strange Frontiers/Fun In Space/Star Fleet).
  144. I sent Alex many facts and suggestion from QFN and it's
  145. reaeders. Hopefully something will finally become of it.

  150. Magic Years 4
  151. -------------
  152. This compilation in the continuing saga has been postponed
  153. until sometime next year. The Christmas release of the
  154. 'Milton Keynes Bowl' concert from 1982 has also been shelved
  155. by EMI. However they were origianlly to release 'Earls
  156. Court' from 1977, but discovered that each time Freddie sat
  157. at the piano his voice dropped lower as the microphone at
  158. the piano hadn't recorded! There is a possibility the
  159. concert will be released at a later date, if Freddie's voice
  160. can be saved from the 'live' mix from the mixing desk which
  161. is being worked upon.

  165. Greatest Hits repackages.
  166. -------------------------
  167. Hits 1 and 2 are to be repackaged (CD) for Christmas in a
  168. gold embossed slip-case with a 40 page booklet (and possibly
  169. gold coloured CD's). It should be priced around £19.95.
  170. Hits 1 and 2 have also been released on the new Video CD-i
  171. system at a price of £24.99 for 2 hours and 17 minutes.

  175. Mercury and Me
  176. --------------
  177. This is the title of the new book by Jim Hutton, Freddie's
  178. companion for the last seven years of his life.

  193. The Freddie Mercury Garden Party - 3/10/94

  197. For the third year running a party has been held in
  198. Freddie's honour. The review in the fan club magazine was
  199. written by Jim Jenkins, co-author of 'As It Began' and it
  200. seems like, as usual everyone had a great time even though
  201. it rained.
  202. The cover group 'GaGa' performed and the crowd were treated
  203. to a sneak preview of Roger's new album 'Happiness?'
  204.  
  205. All the usual activities were evident including raffles,
  206. mimes, stalls (with fans selling Queen merchandise), of
  207. course a disco and a silly hat theme with prizes, and
  208. finnaly an auction which raised £350 plus money from the
  209. raffle which took the total to £1000 for 'The Mercury
  210. Pheonix Trust'.

  217. It begins at 2pm and will probably last until midnight.
