BRIAN
-----
Brian has been working on both new solo material and the
final Queen album.
Many thousands of fans entered the competition in the
'Guitarist Magazine' to win a Guild BHM guitar - the winner
is Vanesa Lopez, (who doesn't yet play!)
The valuable instrument was presented to Vanesa at the Fan
Club office by Brian himself. Vanesa later admited she only
entered to meet Brian!
Brian was invited to play on the new Jennifer Rush album, as
she was recording a version of 'Who Wants To Live Forever'.
He also ended up dueting with Jennifer, thought it's not yet
certain if this track will end up on the album.

Woodstock 2
-----------
Brain was due to play at the Woodstock Revival Festival this
summer in New York with Paul Roger's band, but upon arrival
was so ill he returned home.

Queen & I
---------
Many of you may already know about the book by Laura
Jackson, Queen and I, (subtitled 'The Brian May Story').
Well, a few years ago she contacted Brian and asked if she
could research a book about his life. Brian agreed in
principal, so she went ahead.
Brian was at first keen to co-operate, but had little time
to devote to it personally and suggested Laura should wait a
while. However she did not wait and now the book has been
published, albiet without Brian's permission. (See review
later in this issue of QFN).

The Guitar (A Guide For Students & Teachers).
---------------------------------------------
This is a book Brian WASs involved in, which was originally
published in 1988 (I think - Ed) by Oxford University Press.
Michael Stimpson complied an edited it while Brian
contributed a chapter on rock guitar.
There is now a new series of books by the same author
entitled 'Guitar Styles' - Brian has co-written the rock
styles book which includes six pieces especially written by
Brian, and a version of 'Who Wants To Live Forever'.
The music itself is written in tablature and standard staff
notation. The books are aimed at both the beginner and
experienced player, with notes on technique and how to play.
The book costs £6.95 and should be available in all good
shops that sell musical instruments. Your high street
book-sellers should be able to order it for you.
The ISBN (book number) is 0-19-358915-X.

Rise Of The Robots
------------------
The new game 'Rise Of The Robots' which includes some Brian
May music (The Dark and Resurrection) is to be released on a
record number of formats.
The 18th November sees it's release on:
PC VGA
PC Super VGA
PC CD-ROM
Amiga (500/600/1200/1500/2000/3000/4000)
Amiga CD 32.
Other formats to watch out for, (and maybe before Christmas)
are:
Philips CD-i
Panasonic 3DO
Super Nintendo.
On no packaging of this game have I found credits to Brian!

Roger's Letter
-------------
In his hand-written letter Roger hopes everyone liked
'Happiness?', admitting it is a quite personal collection of
songs. He also says here's looking forwards to the UK tour
later this year,(94) and he Brian and John are still working
on the final album which he suggests could keep them busy
well into 1995!
Finally his hovercraft is full of eels and no doubt his
Hungarian isn't too good either! (A 'Monty Python' reference
for all you non-believers out there).

Re-issues
---------
There is a possiblity that Roger's two previous albums will
soon be re-issued soon, and something Jacky at the fan club
has been pestering EMI for for a few years.
Co-incidentally, some of you may remember reading in QFN 6/7
that Alexander Levy at EMI France was doing research into
some of EMI's back-catalogue and asked QFN and it's readers
for assitance with details of album / singles release
dates / catalogue numbers, and what if any bonus tracks
could fans suggest to include on Roger and Brian solo work,
(Strange Frontiers/Fun In Space/Star Fleet).
I sent Alex many facts and suggestion from QFN and it's
reaeders. Hopefully something will finally become of it.
Lets hope so!

Magic Years 4
-------------
This compilation in the continuing saga has been postponed
until sometime next year. The Christmas release of the
'Milton Keynes Bowl' concert from 1982 has also been shelved
by EMI. However they were origianlly to release 'Earls
Court' from 1977, but discovered that each time Freddie sat
at the piano his voice dropped lower as the microphone at
the piano hadn't recorded! There is a possibility the
concert will be released at a later date, if Freddie's voice
can be saved from the 'live' mix from the mixing desk which
is being worked upon.

Greatest Hits repackages.
-------------------------
Hits 1 and 2 are to be repackaged (CD) for Christmas in a
gold embossed slip-case with a 40 page booklet (and possibly
gold coloured CD's). It should be priced around £19.95.
Hits 1 and 2 have also been released on the new Video CD-i
system at a price of £24.99 for 2 hours and 17 minutes.

Mercury and Me
--------------
This is the title of the new book by Jim Hutton, Freddie's
companion for the last seven years of his life.
A full review will hopefully appear in QFN 17. Any takers?
“Freddie Mercury was an honest man, I felt he deserved an
honest book”.

The Freddie Mercury Garden Party - 3/10/94
------------------------------------------
Gardeners Green Farm - Berkshire UK
For the third year running a party has been held in
Freddie's honour. The review in the fan club magazine was
written by Jim Jenkins, co-author of 'As It Began' and it
seems like, as usual everyone had a great time even though
it rained.
The cover group 'GaGa' performed and the crowd were treated
to a sneak preview of Roger's new album 'Happiness?'
All the usual activities were evident including raffles,
mimes, stalls (with fans selling Queen merchandise), of
course a disco and a silly hat theme with prizes, and
finnaly an auction which raised £350 plus money from the
raffle which took the total to £1000 for 'The Mercury
Pheonix Trust'.
