-
- ACE update archives contain two kinds of files:
-
- - Files in which bugs have been fixed or additions made.
- These are listed under the "Files" column in the table.
-
- - Documentation: this README file, the latest history log
- and if the modifications warrant it, the amended ace.doc,
- ref.doc or AIDE.doc. These are listed in the "References"
- column above. The history file shows the entry dates of
- relevance.
-
- The purpose of providing these updates is twofold:
-
- - So you don't have to wait until the next FULL release of ACE
- to get fixes/improvements in ACE and AIDE.
-
- - To avoid massive file transfers for each little bug fix or
- addition.
-
- The number of updates between each major release of ACE will hopefully
- be small, but will vary depending upon:
-
- - The seriousness of a bug which has been fixed.
-
- - The immediate usefulness of an improvement/addition.
-
- - The length of time between major releases of ACE.
-
- Each successive update archive will include the changes from all previous
- updates. This means that you only need to get the very latest archive to
- have all the changes to the last major ACE release (v2.0 being the latest).
- In any case, updates will probably be limited to a few files (eg: db.lib,
- ACE, AIDE.b).
-
- All linked-library and executable files which have changed will have their
- internal version information modified. This information can be viewed with
- the following shell/CLI command:
-
- VERSION filename FULL
-
- Simply extract the archive into your main ACE directory. All updated files
- will be placed into the appropriate directories (eg: lib, bin, docs).
-
- See the details at the end of ace.doc if you need to contact me with any
- comments or further bug reports.
-
- Regards,
