Command: Edit/Design/Edit < EDE >
Purpose: Scrollable grid-based design screen editor
Information:
Edit/Design/Edit is the only design screen editor; numerical
input is not an option for the design.
The Design screen is Patternland's work area for Weave
Wizard's pattern analysis, and block threading weavings.
Editing options are given on the help available while the
edit screen is displayed.
Comments:
The size of the window is determined dynamically upon each
entry to the editor, based on the Size number of rows and
columns and on the current Design range.
All the standard editing modes switches apply.
The full design can be displayed in a graphics mode.
The design can be printed in text mode. To print a design
in graphics mode, first convert it to a weaving and print
as a graphics mode weaving.

_______________________________________________________________
Command: Edit/Design/Size < EDS >
Purpose: Set the overall size of the design board.
Information:
The current design Range determines the visible area of the
design board--but the Size is what is available to the
Range.
Comments:
Increasing the Size does not necessarily change the
Range, so you must reset the Range after the Size.
See Also: Edit/Range/Row or Column
_______________________________________________________________
Command: Edit/Design/New < EDN >
Purpose: Erase the current design.
Information:
New creates a fresh design board of the current Size. You
are warned that the current board is about to be erased.
Comments:
There is NO undo for New.
It is a good idea to save versions of your Design as you
work, so you can undo experiments that don't work out.

_______________________________________________________________
Command: Edit/Design/Transfer Weaving < EDT >
Purpose: Weave to the design grid the current weaving.
Information:
The current weaving pattern draft, up to the maximum size
Design board will be created on the design board. The Size
of the design board is adjusted as needed.
Design colors and symbols ARE the current Warp colors and
symbols, so no transfer is necessary.
Comments:
Transfer Weaving is the opposite of Weave Wizard.
You can use Transfer Weaving to work in both directions--
back and forth--as you alter both design and
threading/treadling.

_______________________________________________________________
Command: Edit/Design/Weave Wizard < EDW >
Purpose: Create a new weaving from the current design.
Information:
Weave Wizard is Patternland's pattern analysis function.
After you create a design on the design screen with
Edit/Design/Edit, choose Weave Wizard to calculate a
possible threading and weft harness combinations.
Magic Tieup can further create tieups and treadling from the
weft harnesses identified by Weave Wizard.
Comments:
Weave Wizard will be unable to complete the threading if
your design contains more than 32 distinct vertical (warp)
columns of pattern. Weave Wizard will inform you of the
warp thread number at which point your design became too
complex for the number of harnesses you use.
Weave Wizard is unaware of warp- or weft-face possibilities
to create your design as a weaving.
Color and Weave affects are not considered by Weave Wizard;
pattern is considered to be warp/weft only.
The current weaving is erased before Weave Wizard works.

Command: Edit/Design/Block Weave Warp < EDB >
Purpose: Switch--Enable or disable block weaving mode
Information:
This switch determines if Patternland uses the current
threading directly as threaded or instead considers it a
profile threading indexing threading blocks on the design
screen for all Display and Print options.
When Block Weave is ON, Patternland temporarily recalculates
the entire threading by substituting the respective
"threading block" from the design screen for each "harness
number" in the profile draft.
If Permanent Blocks are OFF, Patternland restores the
threading at the end of each display or print.
To create threading blocks on the design screen, start in
column one and enter the threading (up to row 32 for 32
harnesses) for thread one in the first "threading block".
Enter the threading for each succeeding thread in the first
threading block. Then skip one column before beginning the
next "threading block" of as many "threading columns" as you
like. You must have at least one block on the design
screen for block weave to function.
Comments:
The design screen serves as a second threading grid input
screen for block weave mode.
By saving and loading design screens of threading blocks,
you can experiment with various threadings.
Use Permanent Blocks and display the weaving ONCE to change
a profile threading into an actual threading with the
current design threading blocks.

_______________________________________________________________
Command: Edit/Design/Permanent Blocks < EDP >
Purpose: Switch--Control permanent change of threading
Information:
Allows you to permanently change all threading from profile
to actual, using the threading blocks currently on the
design screen.
You are warned before the original threading is abondoned
for the recreated threading from the threading blocks.
Comments:
Simply Display or Print the weaving ONE time to permanently
change the threading. Then turn OFF Permanent Blocks and
Block Weave mode to view as a normal weaving.
Each time you display or print the weaving with Permanent
Blocks and Block Weave ON, the actual threading is treated
as a profile draft and then recreated using the Design
screen threading blocks. You can make a profile of a
profile of a profile by repeatedly displaying the weaving.

_______________________________________________________________
Command: Edit/Design/Extra Block Heddle < EDX >
Purpose: Switch--Control extra thread at block change
Information:
When switch is ON an extra thread is added to the warp
whenever the threading block changes.
The additional thread equals the threading of the first
thread in the block and is added after all other threads
from that threading block.
Comments:
Earlier versions added the thread in a different place.
A little experimentation will demonstrate what this switch
does.
