Command: Weave < W >
Purpose: Control Weave Editor Modes and Computer-Aided-Weaving
Information:
This menu gives access to the primary settings of
Patternland: whether or not the loom control window is
available; whether tieups and treadling or the harness lift
plan are used to edit the weft; the weave editor Styles
options controlling the editor appearance and arrangement of
the windows; and Loom Setup options controlling the loom
interface itself. You can also control the section of your
weaving to edit or display; and access a scrollable text
mode display of the pattern without the draft data.
Comments:
Once you have selected the mode and style you want, you
press <ESC> to close the menu system and begin editing or
weaving. From the editor or loom control window, you can
press the Help key <?> again for specific edit or loom
control options.

Command: File < F >
Purpose: Provide a menu of Filing Options and the Quit option.
Information:
Patternland weavings are stored only in the memory of the
computer until you save them to a diskette or your hard
disk using the File/Save option. The File/Load option lets
you get them back again at another session.
The File menu also lets you access the Patternland word
processor; get a directory of files; select a subdirectory
for saving or reading files or Help; erase a file off the
disk; and return to the DOS prompt or other shell from
which you entered Light Weave.
Comments:
You should save your work regularly to guard against lost
data due to a power failure. Also, so you can backtrack on
your designing process, it is a good idea to save weavings
under "series" names like Weave1, Weave2, etc. so you can
load an older version if you don't like changes you made and
saved.
Besides weaving and note text files, Light Weave can
separately save multi-symbol sets and color palettes.
The current symbol set and color palette is automatically
saved with the weaving file, but by saving them separately,
you can reuse various symbol sets and palettes with the
same weaving without recreating them every time.
Each type of file Patternland makes has a special suffix,
like ".PWV" for weavings. Thus your file names can only be
the eight characters allowed by DOS for a filename prefix.
However, because of the varying suffixes, you can use the
same name for various types of files related to the same
weaving. For example, Weave1.PWV might have a related
Weave1.PNF note file containing your detailed weaving
notes. The suffixes for each type of file are given under
help for that option.
"Quit" is included as the last option of this menu to remind
you to save your work before exiting.

Command: New < N >
Purpose: Selectively erase or resize the weaving or components.
Information:
You can choose whether to start a brand new weaving from
scratch or to erase only the warp, weft, or tieup.
You can also extend or reduce the number of warp or weft
threads.
Comments:
Light Weave warns you to save your work before continuing.

Command: Tools < T >
Purpose: A menu of editing tools.
Information:
This menu controls whether the cursor moves automatically
(Smart Cursor), or requires a mouse or cursor movement key;
lets you insert a group of warp or weft threads; copies the
threading to the treadling; recreates the tieup and
treadling; and inverts the tieups.
Comments:
SmartCursor can also be controlled with a shortcut key; the
other options require the menu command.

Command: Block < B >
Purpose: A menu of block editing options.
Information:
One of the more powerful features of Light Weave is the
capibility to define and work with up to 10 warp and 10 weft
sections (blocks) of the weaving. This menu lets you mark
and unmark the blocks as well as copy, delete, or erase the
block. A submenu controls the several copy modes available
for block work.
Comments:
All block options except Delete and Erase have a alternative
commands which you may or may not prefer. A major advantage
of the menu is that it is fully mouseable.

Command: Color < C >
Purpose: A menu of color editing options.
Information:
This menu lets you control, save, and load the EGA or VGA
video palette; toggle between Color & Weave editing or
"Single Color" weave structure editing; as well as select
the Single and Working Colors for the editor and the
Background and Data colors for graphics.
Comments:
You can create weaving colors and symbols as you go along by
using the "Working Color"--or you can change the colors
after creating the draft by using the color input keys.

Help from the Weave Editor window
______________________________________________________________
Command: Symbol < S >
Purpose: A menu of symbol/size editing options.
Information:
Your weaving draft can use up to 16 screen characters
(symbols) to represent the warp, and another set of 16
characters for the weft. When you use these symbols instead
of just one for warp and one for weft, it is called "Multi-
symbol" warp or weft. The symbol "number" is its position
from 1-16 in the set of characters. The symbol number is
ALSO the SIZE of the thread when Graphed with the variable
size switch on.
This menu lets you select, save, and load the warp and weft
multi-symbol sets; toggle between Multi-Symbol editing or
"Single Symbol" editing; as well as select the Single and
Working Symbols for the editor and text-mode pattern-only
displays.
Comments:
You can create weaving symbols and colors as you go along by
using the "Working Symbol"--or you can change the symbols
after creating the draft by using the symbol input keys.

Help from the Weave Editor window
______________________________________________________________
Command: Graph < G >
Purpose: Provide a graphics mode display of the weaving.
Information:
Light Weave displays weavings either in the editor along
with the weave data, in a text mode pattern-only scrolling
mode from the Weave menu, or in one of your system's
available graphics modes from this menu. The warp, weft,
and tieup data are selectively available in graphics mode
displays, as is the zoom view level and the capibility of
displaying threads in various sizes determined by the
symbol number.
Comments:
Weave/Syles/Format affects not only the editor windows, but
the positioning of the threading and treadling data for
graphics mode displays.
The graphics modes options presented are determined by the
currently installed video display.

Command: Help < H >
Purpose: Menu--Access several full-screen help files
Information:
Most help is context-sensitive: press the help key <?> for
help while a particular option is highlighted and the help
text related to that option is presented. Pressing the help
key while editing presents the help on the Weave Editor.
From this Help Menu, the Introduction, Tutorial, Word
Processing, and several other topics are available. Please
read the help; you may find it at least a little helpful.
There is no context help for the help menu itself; unlike
all other menus, topics may be selected with the help keys
in addition to pressing <Enter> or the Key character.
Comments:
You can also access context help from the Command Window by
prefacing a command with </>.
The full-screen help available from the help menu is
designed to introduce the program and supplement the context
help. You may wish to begin the learning process with
Help/Introduction.
You can also read and write your own help files and notes.
The File/Write and File/Read options let you edit, access,
and print text files you create about specific weavings or
more general topics.
You can also edit the help files themselves if you like--for
example, to translate to another language. Note, however,
that the help file limit is 300 lines; and the beginning
line number for each topic/menu option is contained in line
one of the file. If you change the file, you must correct
any line number changes or the help won't pop up at the
right line anymore.

Command: Main < M >
Purpose: Return to the main Weave Simulator menu
Information:
The Weave Simulator Edit/Weaving, Edit/Warp/Edit, and
Edit/Weft/Edit options open the door to the weave editor and
a menu system nearly identical to that of Patternland Light
Weave. This option returns you to the main Weave Simulator
menu, which provides numerous other options not available
from the Light Weave Editor.
Comments:
The functions of the Install menu in this position of
Patternland Light Weave are available in Weave Simulator
under the main Setup option.
