  7. This is a little extension to the .DOC to fill you in on a couple of
  8. things.  You can read the rest of the documentation first, if you wish,
  9. but be sure to come back to this!
  10.  
  11. Included in this package are the following files:
  12.  
  13.         JOKEODAY.COM - The main program
  14.         JOKEODAY.DOC - The documentation
  15.         JOKES.DUM - The default joke file (contains 81 jokes)
  16.         JOKES2.DUM - A new, extra joke file (contains 200 jokes)
  17.         FILE_ID.DIZ - A description of the program for BBS systems
  18.                       supporting the FILE_ID.DIZ
  19.         README.1ST - This file

  21. To use the new joke file, you SHOULD be able to use the -f option
  22. explained in the .DOC.  HOWEVER, this option has been known to work some
  23. times and not others, for a reason that we at Platypus Programming have
  24. not been able to discover as of this time.  We hoped that it would be
  25. worked out by the time we were ready to release version 3.1415926535,
  26. but, alas, we have not been able to get it.  SO, the solution, if you
  27. are sick and tired of the jokes in JOKES.DUM, is to either delete
  28. JOKES.DUM or back it up, and rename JOKES2.DUM to JOKES.DUM.  Joke Of
  29. The Day, upon running, always checks in the current directory for
  30. JOKES.DUM unless a different file is specified with -f.  As stated,
  31. though, -f doesn't always work!  The best solution is to put Joke of
  32. the Day in its own subdirectory ALONG WITH a joke file named
  33. JOKES.DUM, and run it from there.  To do this, there should be these
  34. consecutive lines somewhere in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:

  36.                 CD\JOKEODAY
  37.                 JOKEODAY
  38.                 CD\
  39.  
  40. This will go into the JOKEODAY subdirectory, where you hopefully have
  41. JOKEODAY.COM and a file named JOKES.DUM, run it, and then head back out
  42. into the root directory.  If you can't get any of this to work, see the
  43. COMMENTS section of the .DOC file.

  46.                            WHAT IS FREEWARE?
  47.  
  48. A program and/or package that is freeware, such as this one, is a
  49. program that can be used as much as the user wishes, for however long
  50. the user wishes, and can be copied as many times as the user wishes,
  51. with no guilt or fear that the Feds will come after you.  It costs you
  52. nothing except that the authors hope you will laugh when you use it and
  53. have fun with it, as that is what Joke Of The Day is all about, having a
  54. good laugh while gagging on Saurkraut juice.  Life is grand, and so are
  55. pianos, so why can't we all just lick our feet and say "Hallelujah"?
