  9.  AB    To examine the relationship between health insurance status and health
  10.        services utilization among HIV-infected patients with active
  11.        Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), the discharge and outpatient
  12.        databases of a large California medical facility were reviewed. Four
  13.        hundred fifty records met the inclusion criteria. Logistic regression
  14.        indicated that those who had publicly funded insurance were about half
  15.        as likely (95% CI 0.28, 0.99) as were those who had private insurance to
  16.        undergo bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage at the time of their
  17.        first PCP episodes. Further research is required to identify the reasons
  18.        for this difference.
