Instructions for Installing DS-CIAB
1. Use the CIAB BACKUP program to make an exact copy of your original
system disk. This new master disk should have sysgen.com, setup.com
etc on it. N.B. Your original should be write-protected so there is
no chance of accidently writing on it.
2. Make sure the new master disk will boot in your A: drive OK - if not
correct and restart - check the CIAB directions received with your
original system if in doubt. The disk must be bootable before proceeding.
3. Copy the two files DS-CIAB.COM and 800KFMT.COM to this new master disk.
4. Boot this new master disk in the A: drive and go to CP/M.
5. Type DS-CIAB at the A> prompt and hit return. The program should
install the new Bios giving you progress messages.
6. Hit any key as indicated if there were no error messages and your new
system should boot OK. If there were errors - go back to the beginning
and try again. Leave a message for me on SMUG if you cannot get past
this point.
7. Use the CIAB SETUP program to tailor your system - things like screen
position, number of drives etc. just as you always have done. More
system disks can be created from this one using CIABs sysgen.
7. Use the 800KFMT program to format double-sided disks. Obviously you must
use a double-sided drive to do this :-)
8. Use the sysgen program supplied by MicroBee to transfer your new system
from the new master disk to the system tracks of double-sided disks if
your A: drive is double-sided. Note that MiroBees CIAB Backup program will
NOT backup double-sided disks.
9. The BIOS will automatically sense whether the diskette is formatted
single or double-sided - but remember - the CP/M requirements for the
use of ^C very important as it is only when a new disk is being logged
in that the format is automatically sensed.
10. The double-sided format is compatible with that used on the 3.5" Premium
MicroBees so you will be able to swap disks in either single or double-
sided format.
11. If you are interested in SUPRBDOS for the CIAB, (the PD replacement for
DRI's BDOS) leave me a note on SMUG.
12. Any problems or questions - leave me a message on SMUG (02)-476-6396 or
find me at the monthly SMUG meeting.
