Lesson 2
MOVING FORWARD AND BACKWARD
Moving the cursor is very important, because all changes you
make in a document are made at the position of the cursor.
Perfect Writer provides a number of versatile and efficient
commands for moving the cursor. First, there are the the ARROW
keys at the right of the keyboard, which move the cursor in the
direction indicated. If held, they will repeat, skipping the
cursor continuously in any direction. Try this now; use the
arrow keys to move the cursor around the text of this lesson.
Scroll down by selecting:
Escape...Forward...This window
While the arrow keys are often adequate, they sometimes move
more slowly than we would like. Perfect Writer provides a number
of other commands for moving the cursor through your document
more quickly. These commands are available through the Forward
and Backward submenus. To view these menus, select:
Escape...Forward...Quit...Backward...Escape
Two commands that move the cursor forward or backward a WORD
are:
Escape...Forward...Word
Escape...Backward...Word
Practice moving the cursor back and forth across a line
using these commands.
Two commands that jump the cursor to the beginning or end of
the current LINE are:
Escape...Forward...Line end
Escape...Backward...Line begin
If repeated, these commands will continue to move the cursor
to the ends or beginnings of following or previous lines.
Two commands that move the cursor to the beginning and
end of the current SENTENCE are:
Escape...Forward...Sentence
Escape...Backward...Sentence
Practice jumping the cursor to the end and beginning of
current sentences. See how simple it is!
Perfect Writer allows you to move your cursor to the
beginnings and ends of PARAGRAPHS, too, simply by selecting:
Escape...Forward...Paragraph
Escape...Backward...Paragraph
These commands jump to the first or last character preceding
or following the line break that separates two paragraphs.
The largest cursor movement is accomplished by:
Escape...Backward...Home To BEGINNING of document
Escape...Forward...End To END of document
These commands will jump the cursor from anywhere in a
document to the beginning or end of that document, no matter how
long the document may be. Practice jumping the cursor back and
forth to the beginning and end of this lesson (afterwards
scrolling to this point).
This completes the lesson on Moving the Cursor. If you
would like to proceed to Lesson 3 at this time, select:
Escape...Documents...Read
When Perfect Writer asks "Document to read," type "lesson3,"
followed by the Return key. Perfect Writer will read Lesson 3
into memory and switch you to it.
If you do not wish to continue, select:
Escape...Exit PW
IMPORTANT: Perfect Writer may respond: "Document(s) not
saved! Do you still wish to exit?" Answer `y' for Yes, since you
do not want to save any modifications you may have made to the
lesson.
Perfect Writer will return you to the PSI Menu.
End of Lesson 2
