Static Scenery Details-
Downtown Anchorage is included with major office towers and hotels. All
major area airports are also depicted; Anchorage International, Merrill
Field, Lake Hood Seaplane Base, Campbell Field, Elmendorf AFB, and others.
Cook Inlet, Knik Arm, and Turnagain Arm have been put in place. The Susitna,
Knik, Kenai, and Matanuska Rivers are also included. A number of mountain
ranges are depicted. The Alaska Range has 20,320-foot Mount McKinley and
17,400-foot Mount Foraker. The Chugach Range covers an approximately 100-
mile-long by 50-mile-wide area east of Anchorage. These mountains are mostly
smaller, usually only 5,000 or 6,000 feet tall. A few glaciers are hidden
high in these mountains at the ends of valleys. At the far east end of the
scenery is a particularly dense concentration of glaciers. Mount Marcus
Baker in this area is over 13,000 feet tall. West of Anchorage is another
area of mountains, most over 10,000 feet. These include Mount Spurr, Mount
Torbert, Redoubt Volcano, and Mount Gerdine, which is erupting in this
scenery. In Cook Inlet, a supertanker is depicted which has run aground and
has broken up, causing an oil spill.
