Hanscom Field is pretty accurate as I've been there a number of times
for airshows and was able to pull out some photos to work from.
Thanks to pilot Peter James I was also able to get some aerial photos
of the field which helped make it even more accurate. Hanscom is a
mixed use field as it is shared by Hanscom A.F.B. and private users.
The mode provided for Hanscom parks you in front of the main terminal
building. The Air Force has no planes based here, but military
planes do make visits for electronics outfitting. The Raytheon
building, one of the companies that works closely with the Air Force,
is visible across the runway as a large gray building.
Important Scenery Locations (Flight Simulator Coordinates)
----------------------------------------------------------
Hanscom Tower: 18020.7149 N
21821.7618 E
Needham TV Towers: 17950 N
21858 E
Marlboro Airport: 17962.0391 N
21774.4922 E
Shaker Hill NDB (251): 18024.4743 N
21857.1158 E
BEDDS NDB (332): 18020.0253 N
21789.0356 E
The Needham towers are included as they make a terrific landmark; at
about 1200 feet high they can be seen from all over. They are located
at the intersection of Routes 9 and 128. Marlboro airport is included
as it's missing from SD-12. It's actually just outside the radius set
for Hanscom but is needed to link properly with my Marlboro centered
scenery as FS doesn't switch to the Marlboro file until it's too late.
The two NDB's were added as they are required for instrument approaches.
The Hanscom ATIS on 124.6 has also been added using SEE02 by Laemming
Wheeler.
See if you can find the radar dish atop Prospect Hill in Waltham. It's
right along side of Rt. 128 south of the airport. This item required
SEE02 and some levitation tricks.
